SpiceJet is a low-cost airline based in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. It is India’s fourth largest airline in terms of domestic passenger share, operating over 230 daily flights to 45 destinations – 37 Indian and eight international cities. SpiceJet has a fleet size of 33 aircraft – 18 Boeing 737-800/900ER and 15 Bombardier Dash 8 Q400. The airline began operations in May 2005, with primary hubs at Chennai International Airport, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport; secondary hubs at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Kempegowda International Airport; and focus cities at Cochin International Airport, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, and Pune International Airport.

How to Check In

Upon check-in, all SpiceJet passengers including children and infant must present valid identification, with the necessary travel documents. Airport check-in starts at two hours (three hours for international flights) before scheduled departure, and closes 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Cancellation or changes made within one hour prior to the scheduled departure time or failure to check-in at least 45 minutes (75 minutes for international flights) before the scheduled departure time will result to the fare becoming forfeited. SpiceJet’s website also allows the convenience of online check-in, where passengers can select their preferred seats and print the boarding pass to be presented during security check. Web check-in is not available for flights departing from Jammu and Srinagar; group bookings of 10 passengers and above; Indian armed force personnel and student bookings; those who are travelling with an infant; passengers with reduced mobility and special needs; passengers aged 12 and below and travelling alone; interline bookings; and flights departing Ex International sector.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

For each SpiceJet passenger, one piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg and maximum combined dimension of 115cm (on Boeing flights) and 108cm (on Bombardier flights) is allowed. Those who are travelling with infants are allowed an additional piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight of 7kg and not exceeding the size dimensions. For airport security regulations, cabin baggage is not allowed on flights departing from Jammu or Srinagar airports. In addition, complementary carry-on bags such as a small hand bag in addition to small personal items are allowed. This includes a ladies purse/hand bag, an overcoat wrap or blanket, an umbrella and/or a walking stick, a reasonable amount of reading material, a small camera or binoculars, infant’s food, or a laptop. SpiceJet also has a free checked baggage allowance of 15kg not exceeding 158cm in overall dimensions per passenger for all domestic bookings. For EX-IXJ and SXR flights, free checked in baggage allowance is 22kg per passenger per flight. Excess baggage can be purchased online, at the airports, or from call centres at least 12 hours before the flight as per prepaid excess baggage slabs of 5kg, 10kg, 15kg, 20kg, or 30kg. Note that the airline will only accept excess baggage if space permits, and may refuse to carry any luggage that does not comply with its policies.

Booking Fees

SpiceJet bookings for domestic flights have a corresponding convenience fee for all transactions done online and all bookings made from Call Centre and airport ticketing counters. The fee applies on a ‘per passenger, per segment’ basis. SpiceJet also accepts payments via MasterCard, Visa Card, and Amex Card for flights booked through the nationwide Call Centre. For seats booked through the SpiceJet Airport Sales Centre, payments can be made with cash or MasterCard/Visa/Amex. For seats purchased with one of the airline’s preferred travel agents, payments can be made with cash or applicable credit/debit cards. Cash payment may also be done at any of the City Union Bank branches for hold bookings made through Call Centre. A non-refundable service fee will apply. For international flights, a non-refundable convenience fee will also apply for all transactions done online and all bookings made from Call Centre and airport ticketing counters. The fee applies on a ‘per passenger, per segment’ basis. For bookings made through the Call Centre, payment is to be remitted by credit/debit card or credit shell. At least one of the passengers booked in the original PNR should be travelling in the new PNR. For bookings made with SpiceJet’s preferred travel agents, payment can be made with cash or credit/debit card.
