Terminal Information

Edinburgh Airport works with a single, two-storey passenger terminal building with its ground level containing 47 check-in desks numbered from 00 to 46, domestic and international arrivals area, service counters, and shops, and its upper floor containing a central airside waiting area, 11 departure gates numbered 1 to 7, and 9 to 12, with additional 11 gates from 13 to 23 in a connected pier building. The upper level also has a good number of shops.

London Heathrow Airport used to have five terminals although Terminal 1 is now non-operation. The flights from Edinburgh to London are via Terminal 2 or the Queen’s Terminal. Originally the Heathrow East Terminal, the terminal building was built on the previous Terminal 2 and Queen’s Building site, within an area of around 49,654 square metres or 534,470 square feet. It currently operates flights provided by Star Alliance member airlines.

Flights from Edinburgh to London via Gatwick Airport are catered in the North Terminal of the two terminals within the airport. Both of the terminals have shops and restaurants, and are accessible to disabled passengers. Some of its facilities include baby changing and feeding areas/stations, children’s play area with video games, and specialised lounges.

London Stansted Airport terminal is the newest out of all the primary international airports in London. The terminal building of the airport forms an oblong and is made out of glass with separate areas divided into three parts with the check-in and main concourse, departures, and arrivals to the front, back left and back right of the terminal upon entry, respectively. In general the terminal’s facilities include offers currency exchange, restaurants, lounges, prayer rooms, meeting rooms, smoking areas, among others.

London Luton Airport terminal and its airport facilities can be found towards the north of the airport’s runway the terminal offers a departure lounge, executive lounge, arrivals and onward travel centre, among others.

Through London City Airport, its terminal is smaller in comparison to the other airports that serve London. It has a single, two-storey terminal building that has check-in desks, among other service facilities on the ground floor, with an airside waiting area and shops on the upper floor.

Practical Information

Heading out of Edinburgh Airport, checking in can be done online, through mobile, self-service, and desk check-in. Check-in starts from two hours before the scheduled departure with check-in desks sometimes differing with check-in times depending on the airline. Other airlines like easyJet, Flybe, Ryanair, and more, open their desks at 2.5 hours to three hours before departure. As the flight from Edinburgh to London is a domestic flight, you will only need to present your ticket and/or booking reference, and photographic ID/s.
