Take your time discovering the mix of cultural attractions this diverse country has to offer.
Catch a glimpse of the royal way of life at the majestic Palacio Real (Royal Palace) of Madrid, the official residence of the King of Spain. Built between 1738 to 1755, it is now only used for state ceremonies. The Alhambra in Southern Spain – part fortress, part palace and part garden, was constructed in the 14th century by Nasrid sultans and is another site popular among visitors. History buffs should also not miss the ancient Aqueduct of Segovia, one of the most well-preserved monuments left by the Romans in Spain.
The country’s other architectural splendours, such as the imposing Sagrada Familia Roman Catholic Church in Barcelona and the marvellous Mezquita (Spanish for “Mosque”) of Cordoba are not to be missed as well.
Fancy a little more excitement? Adrenaline junkies might want to visit Pamplona, a city in Navarra that’s famous for its San Fermin Festival (6 to 14 July). The highlight of the event is El Encierro – the Running of the Bulls. Feast your eyes on the sight of a dozen bulls thundering after runners down the town’s streets.
If beaches are your cup of tea, then slip on your flips-flops and head on down to La Concha in San Sebastian, said to be one of the best city beaches in the whole of Europe. Ride the waves or sample delectable Spanish food along the promenade. Or, make a beeline for Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Spain! As one of the hottest party destinations in the region, you’re guaranteed beautiful views and beautiful people.
