Air New Zealand Flights

Air Nelson is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air New Zealand. The airline operates straight from Nelson, New Zealand, with routes under the Air New Zealand Link brand. With Air New Zealand as its parent company, most of the services that Air Nelson offers are tied in with Air New Zealand. The airline only flies one type of aircraft, the Bombardier DHC-8-Q300, a 50-seater that provides excellent regional air service compared to other jets of its size.

Air Nelson currently has 23 Bombardier DHC-8-Q300’s in operation which fly to 16 destinations, with seven crew bases located in Auckland, Napier, Nelson, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Why Fly with Air Nelson

How to Check In

Air Nelson, together with Air New Zealand, offers in-person, and online check-in, for domestic and international passengers. For domestic passengers, baggage should be checked in and dropped at least 30 minutes before the flight’s scheduled departure, while international passengers should be checked in at least 90 minutes before the scheduled flight. If passengers wish to check-in online, they may do so through the online check-in option of the airline. Air Nelson online check-in is provided through the Air New Zealand website, which can be accessed via computer or smartphone. Online check-in is provided for passengers with journeys starting on an Air New Zealand-operated flight. To check-in online, it is mandatory to have your booking reference, passport details, and frequent flyer programme membership numbers, only if applicable.

Passenger seating may be altered to your preferences. There are standard seats, preferred seats, exit row seats, bassinet row seats, and frequent flyer premium seats. These seats differ in fees, depending on the length of the flight, membership, among others. Standard seats can be selected in advance, and will be allocated to passengers at check in, in an event when they have not selected a seat beforehand. Preferred seats get priority boarding privileges, while exit row seats have extra legroom, but are only for passengers that meet the exit row seat requirements. Bassinet row seats are for those travelling with an infant, a good option for parents. The seats can be secured during booking, but otherwise allocated if still available. Frequent flyer premium seats are towards the front of the cabins within most flights. Frequent flyer passengers must present their Airpoints number for an ensured access to the seating of their choice.

Inflight Entertainment

Among Air Nelson’s inflight entertainment include movies and TV shows; music radio shows and audiobooks; games; kids selection of movies, games and audiobooks; and airshow. There are also inflight magazines provided during the domestic flights. “Kai Ora” covers travel, sports, and various stories, and passengers may take the magazine with them as they disembark. In addition, it is to be expected that each seat will have monitors either on the back of the seat in front of them, or stowed in the arm of their seat. Inflight entertainment may differ depending on your flight. Passengers flying to and from New Zealand, Australia, the Pacific Islands, Honolulu, and Bali may have to check with their seat options to avail of other in-flight amenities.
