Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines fly directly from Singapore to the Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST). It is also possible to connect via Doha and Dubai on Qatar Airways and Emirates. Etihad Airways and KLM fly from Singapore to the Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) in Istanbul via Abu Dhabi and Amsterdam.

There are no budget airlines that fly directly from Singapore to Istanbul.

DEPARTURE FROM SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT (SIN)

If you are rushing for time, the quickest way to get to the Singapore Changi Airport is to hop on a public taxi. The ride should not take you longer than 25 minutes if you are coming from the city and it should cost you anywhere between SGD 20 (USD 15) and SGD 30 (USD 22). Existing Uber users will also be able to utilise the service here in Singapore. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative, the train is an excellent choice as it will take you to the airport from the city in about 45 minutes. The price of the train ride should be approximately SGD 2 (USD 1.50) which is ten times lesser than the taxi option.

THINGS TO DO IN SINGAPORE CHANGI AIRPORT (SIN)

Travellers are advised to arrive at the Singapore Changi Airport at least 2 hours prior to their scheduled flight departure. In preparation for the flight ahead, travellers are encouraged to arrive earlier to make use of the facilities in the airport as well as to settle in prior to departure. If you have forgotten something for your trip, chances are that you will be able to purchase it here at the airport. With an extensive range of shops and boutiques in the transit area of the terminals, travellers can indulge in shopping while waiting for the time to board. If you are looking to stay near the airport, the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport is directly connected to Terminal 3.

ARRIVAL AT ISTANBUL ATATÜRK AIRPORT (IST)

Istanbul Atatürk Airport is the busier airport in Istanbul and it is located approximately 23km away from downtown. The easiest way to get from the airport to the city is via a metered taxi which should cost approximately SGD 25 (USD 18) - the journey should take you 30 to 45 minutes. The Havataş bus service is a cheaper alternative which will take you to major landmarks and hotels in the city for around SGD 5 (USD 3.70). Alternatively, you may wish to rent a vehicle from one of the many car rental companies at the airport.

Apart from souvenirs and duty-free shopping that one can enjoy at the Istanbul Atatürk Airport, you will also find grocery stores, florists and medical service providers here. The International Airport Hotel (with 85 rooms) is connected directly to the airport and it offers accommodation by the hour if you are looking to rest and wash up after your flight.

ARRIVAL AT SABIHA GÖKÇEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (SAW)

Since the Sabiha Gökçen Airport is located further away from the city center, higher taxi fares should be expected. As a rough guide, a trip from the airport to downtown should cost you around SGD 40 (USD 29) and it will take at least an hour. The private Havataş bus service also operates here for approximately SGD 6 (USD 4.70) to Taksim - the journey should take around 90 minutes.

Clearing the immigration at the Sabiha Gökçen Airport may take a while (especially if you are traveling in Economy). WiFi can be purchased for a fee here at the Sabiha Gökçen Airport. If you are looking for the closest hotel, the ISG Airport Hotel is located just 3 minutes’ walk away from the terminal and free shuttle service to the airport is also provided for guests.
