Palau International Airport was renamed Roman Tmetuchl International Airport in 2006 after the late local politician and businessman Roman Tmetuchl. It is still commonly referred to as Palau International Airport or Babelthuap/Koror Airport. The airport is the sole international gateway to Palau. It is located on Babelthuap Island in Airai state, near the former capital Koror.
Several international carriers serve Palau International Airport with flights to several Asian cities. Asiana Airlines and Korean Air has scheduled flights between Palau and Seoul Incheon. China Airlines and TransAsia Airways also operate flights to Taipei-Taoyuan while Delta Air Lines flies to Tokyo-Narita with onward connections to other international destinations. Palau International Airport is also the hub for the Palauan airline, Belau Air. The airline mainly caters to local charter tours around Palau’s Rock Islands.

Palau, also known as Belau, is a group of islands in the Micronesia area of Oceania. Koror, Palau’s largest city and former capital, is in Koror state. It is here where most of the population lives. The bigger island of Babelthuap, where the airport and the capital city of Ngerulmud are located, is predominantly rural in character. This main island boasts of lush forests, mangroves and beautiful beaches. The archipelago also includes countless numbers of uninhabited islands called Rock Islands.
Koror is where one can find most of the tourist amenities. However, the larger resorts are located outside the commercial district. Getting around Koror is quite straightforward. You have the option of choosing from rental cars, taxis or the BBI shuttle service, which operates between the major resorts and the downtown area. Taxis are not metered so it is best to have your hotel concierge arrange one for you rather than flagging one from the street.
