Located in Peelamedu, about 13 km from the center of Coimbatore, Coimbatore International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Coimbatore and its surrounding areas of the Kongu Nadu region in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The airport was established in 1940 as the Peelamedu Civil Aerodrome. The Velliangiri Mountains
These mountains are known as the Kailash of the south and are part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.The site is considered as sacred and many people climb the slopes during Maha Sivarathri and Chitra Pournami every year. Rare medicinal herbs, exotic flora and fauna can be found on these mountains. One of the most popular spot in this mountain shrine is the Siva temple of Velliangiri in the western slopes.
