Located in Peelamedu, about 13 km from the center of Coimbatore, Coimbatore International Airport is the main airport serving the city of Coimbatore and its surrounding areas of the Kongu Nadu region in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The airport was established in 1940 as the Peelamedu Civil Aerodrome. Today, the Coimbatore International Airport has two terminals and is served by more than ten domestic and international carriers.Still primarily a domestic airport, Coimbatore International Airport has regular flights to many Indian cities. Coimbatore International Airport is  11 km away from the nearest major railway station, Coimbatore Junction and about 10km away from the city’s central bus station. There are no bus services which serve the airport. The most common modes of transport from the airport to the city is by metered airport taxis, prepaid taxis and auto rickshaws. These operate daily just outside the terminal building.

The Perur Pateeshwarar Templeis located 7 km west of the Noyyal River. It is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is noted for its many interesting sculptures, carved pillars and statues including the golden statue of Nataraja.

The Velliangiri Mountains

These mountains are known as the Kailash of the south and are part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.The site is considered as sacred and many people climb the slopes during Maha Sivarathri and Chitra Pournami every year. Rare medicinal herbs, exotic flora and fauna can be found on these mountains. One of the most popular spot in this mountain shrine is the Siva temple of Velliangiri in the western slopes.

G.D.Naidu Car Museum

Highly recommended for all science and history enthusiasts, the G.D Naidu Car Museum houses an interesting display of inventions by G.D.Naidu who is commonly referred to as the Edison of India. In addition to the Naidu’s inventions, the museum also showcases the history of industrialisation in Coimbatore.
