Flights from Redding

Redding Municipal Airport is a public airport resting 10 kilometres southeast of Redding. It is located in Shasta County in California. It is one of two airports in Redding, the other being Benton Airpark. In 1942, the site of Redding Army Airfield was acquired by the United States Army Corps of Engineers for the United States Army Air Forces. The airfield was operated by the 339th Fighter Squadron, 369th Fighter Group and was used for advanced flight training of new airmen prior to their deployment overseas into the combat zones of the Pacific, China, Mediterranean, or European Theatres.

The airport has had scheduled jet flights on four airlines. Hughes Airwest (previously Air West) flew Douglas DC-9s to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle, while Frontier Boeing 737-200s flew to Denver via Sacramento. United Airlines meanwhile, flew Boeing 737-200s non-stop and direct flights to San Francisco for a few years starting 1983. Pacific Express meanwhile, operated non-stop to San Francisco and on to Los Angeles and Portland. In addition, American Eagle turboprops operating for American Airlines flew non-stop to San Jose, San Francisco, Eureka/Arcata, and Klamath Falls until late 1993. Finally, SkyWest operating as United Express is the only scheduled passenger service at the airport, flying Embraer EMB-120s to San Francisco and Sacramento.

Where to go

San Francisco is one of the two destinations which can be covered through the Redding Municipal Airport. It is the cultural, commercial, and financial centre of Northern California, and the only consolidated city-county in the state. It is known for its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, but is also known for various sites including Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz Island, Chinatown, and the cable car system.

Sacramento is the main capital city of the US state of California and the seat of government of Sacramento county. It is at at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in the northern portion of California's expansive Central Valley. It is nicknamed “America's Most Diverse City” by TIME magazine, due to the fact that it is notably diverse racially, ethnically, and culturally. Within Sacramento, travellers may see the Old Sacramento State Historic Park, the California State Capitol, the Crocker Art Museum and State Railroad Museum, as well as Sutter's Fort.

There are no short haul international flights from the airport, so to speak. Travellers who are looking for these types of flights should head out to other airports within California, such as the Los Angeles International Airport, the Sacramento International Airport, the San Diego International Airport, the San Francisco International Airport, and many others. California has heaps of major airports which cover short haul international destinations as well as a few long haul destinations.

Travellers will not be able to find long haul flights from the Redding Municipal Airport as this airport only serves domestic flights. They may, however, head to one of the busiest airports in California – which is the Los Angeles International Airport to check on its flight offerings including Tokyo and Abu Dhabi.
