A wonderful place to stopover especially when you're enroute to Lake Baikal - Irkutsk is a nice town to explore, not too busy but also has all the shops and supermarkets you need to stock up on supplies if you're on an extended travel. There are several roads in the town itself that has heritage wooden Siberian houses still inhabited by locals - the houses are well worn out by weather and time, but it makes for lovely photos.
Interesting to explore downtown for a day. Stay much longer for exploring nearby Lake Baikal!!
It was rainy. But still there were tourists. These gates were reconstructed in 2011 for Irkutsk's 350 anniversary.
An interesting city-village, high-rise buildings near one-story houses, all the most interesting and cheap can be found on the market in the center. By the way, renting an apartment in Irkutsk is much cheaper than any hotels.
