Alor Setar is the state capital of Kedah, there are many heritage buildings, museums and cultural centres,such as Grand Audience Hall, Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial, State Art Gallery and Zahir Museum. Other interesting places to visit are the birthhouse of former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad.
