Washington, named after George Washington, the first President of the United States, is a state located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is in the north of Oregon, west of Idaho, and south of the Canadian province of British Columbia. Its capital is Olympia with Seattle and Spokane as the two largest cities. Washington State is a mixture of people from Native American, Latino, European, Asian, and African descent. It is the thirteenth most populated state with fourth highest Asian population. It covers a total area of 72,362 square miles, 50% of which is forest.

The state is dubbed as the “Evergreen State” as it possess rugged coastline, deserts, mountains, volcanoes, coastal islands, and forest, which are full of evergreen trees. Washington State is made up of astounding natural beauty and is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts.

Washington State is the place for watchable wildlife such as whales and other sea mammals, migratory and native birds, deer, bears, cougars, otters, foxes, and many more. It is the place for people that love hiking, camping, biking, as well as winter sports and watersports.

Many popular cities are in the state for you to visit such as Olympia; Bellingham, home to Western Washington University; Seattle, home to all-popular Starbucks; Tacoma, place for beautiful museum; Walla Walla, the blooming wine city; and Yakima, the major agricultural and wine region.

Washington State is home to numerous state parks and three national parks. National parks are namely Olympic National Park, with rugged terrain, wild coastline and damp forest; North Cascades Parks, 50% glaciers; and Mount Rainier National Park, featuring a 14,410-foot volcano.

Mount Baker Highway is a 60-mile of beauty and recreation. You can stop by at Horseshoe Bend, Nooksack Falls, Heather Meadows, and Artist Point where you can do picnic, hiking, and sightseeing.

North Cascades Scenic Highway passes through parts of both Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and North Cascades National Park. Along the path you can take a peek at sceneries like sharp snow-capped peaks, historic dams and powerhouses, and blue-green lakes. Other notable spots include the Diablo Lake Boat Tour, the North Cascades National Park Visitor Center, and the charming Western-themed town of Winthrop.

Seattle is a performance venue to many of Seattle's major events and annual festivals including the Northwest Folklife Festival, Bumbershoot, and Winterfest. Some attractions are in this place like The Space Needle, Experience Music Project and SciFi Museum, the Pacific Science Center, Key Arena, McCaw Hall, and Intiman Theatre.

How to get around

There is very little public transportation available in Washington State so using a car can give you convenience to go around. Road networks in the state are well-maintained and cars are the quickest way to travel. The main freeways are Interstate 5, Interstate 90, and Interstate 82.

Although land travel is widely used, you can still avail intrastate plane services which are offered by Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

The state’s ferry service is the largest in the country. It offers free service across Columbia River. It is good to note that many ferry destinations are not islands without a bridge, but peninsulas where going by land will require long driving detour.

How to get in

Washington State is served by several airports and multiple airlines. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, called "SeaTac" by locals, connects Seattle to all regions of the world, with especially frequent trans-Pacific routes. It serves as the main hub for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, and a hub and international gateway to Asia and Europe for Delta Air Lines. Non-stop flights are from the following countries: Canada, China, United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Taiwan, and the UK.

Apart from planes, train services offered by Amtrak gives numerous way to enter and travel throughout the state. Cars have several ways to get in with the use of Interstate 90 and 5. Greyhounds owns a number of bus station throughout metropolitan areas.
