Newark Liberty International Airport, formerly known as Newark Metropolitan Airport and later Newark International Airport, is an international airport which straddles cities Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey in the United States. It is located about 24 km southwest of Midtown Manhattan, New York City.

Branch Brook Park

Also designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, Branch Brook Park is famous for having the largest collection of cherry blossom trees in the United States. A great time to visit would be in April for the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart

This is the fifth largest cathedral in the United States. Built in French Gothic style in 1899, the cathedral is famous for its stained glass. It is located just across the Branch Brook Park.

You can travel around Newark conveniently as it has an efficient public transportation system.  New Jersey Transit operates the city’s extensive public bus. The Newark City Light Rail also operates 24 hours originating at Penn Station and covers most of the city. It is very easy to hail a cab anywhere in the city. Renting a car is also an option, however parking might be difficult in the downtown area.

Newark’s strategic location definitely offers easy access to most of the sights in the New York Metropolitan Area.
