Cheap Flights from Singapore to Shanghai
Shanghai is one of the most populous cities in the world. As a major city, Shanghai is a center of economics and culture in China. The city has also become a home of the busiest container port in the world. At the same time, Shanghai is famous for its skyscrapers. Today, more than 229 skyscrapers have been built in this city.
Currently, the city is served by two airports—Shanghai Pudong and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Shanghai Pudong mostly serves international flights like Singapore to Shanghai, while domestic and regional routes are handled by Shanghai Hongqiao.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)
Shanghai Pudong International Airport is the main aviation hub of China and the 9th busiest airport in the world. Pudong is about 30 kilometres away from the city centre and is accessible via the Metro Line 2 which takes about 60 minutes (airport to People’s Square) and costs CNY3 (SGD.61) to CNY8 (SGD1.62). Another alternative is a bus service that offers more varied routes. For a one-way trip, the price should be around CNY20 (SGD4.04) to CNY30 (SGD6.06) per person.
You can also take a taxi. Please note that most taxi drivers in Shanghai are not fluent in English. To avoid misunderstanding, it’s better to write your destination and show it to the driver. Depending on the time of your trip, you may be charged with the day or night rate. For the day rate (05.00-11.00 A.M.), it starts from CNY165 (SGD33.33) to CNY185 (SGD37.37), and the night rate is around CNY170 (SGD34.34) to CNY240 (SGD48.49).
Direct flights to Shanghai from Singapore via Pudong Airport are offered by a number of airlines, such as China Eastern Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Spring Airlines.
Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA)
Compared to Shanghai Pudong, the airport is closer to the city, which is 13 km away and reachable within a 40-minute drive. Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Singapore to Shanghai Hongqiao. However, the airport still serves international flights to popular cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, etc.
From this airport to the city, you can take a metro line. It costs CNY3 (SGD.61) for 0-6 km and CNY1 (SGD0.2) for every 10 km. A taxi ride costs about CNY14 (SGD2.83) for the first 0-3 km and CNY2.4 (SGD.48)/km for the next 3-10 km.
Best Month to Visit Shanghai
Shanghai’s climate is a subtropical maritime monsoon, with four distinct seasons. Winter (December-March) and summer (June-September) are not the best time to visit Shanghai. In winter, temperatures can drop below 0 degrees Celsius, while in the summer, the weather can reach up to 32 degrees Celsius. Heavy rainfalls sometimes occur during summer, and there is also a risk of typhoons. Summer is also peak travel season so expect higher air tickets and hotel rates at this time.
The best time to visit Shanghai is during autumn, between October and November. During this period, hotel and flight tickets are cheaper. There is also less likelihood of rain in October and November. But remember, it’s better to avoid the first week of October, because Shanghai is usually crowded with local tourists on their national holiday.
