Al-Azhar Mosque

Considered to be the first mosque in Cairo, the Al-Azhar Mosque is worth a visit. This stunning mosque also feature impressive courtyards which add to the solemnity and elegance of the place. It is interesting to note that the Al-Azhar Mosque is also the second oldest continuously run university in the world.

Getting around to see the sights is very convenient and safe. Yes, you can even ride a camel! Not for getting around the city though, mostly just for photo ops around the pyramid areas. Cairo has an affordable metro system that covers many parts of the city. It gets even cheaper when you purchase the multiple-journey reusable tickets. Buses are also frequent and cheap, but unless you are familiar with the directions it is best to use the metro and taxis to get to the city’s attractions. There are several types of taxis in Cairo. Be sure to take the metered white taxis or alternatively, book a yellow taxi through your hotel.
