Brief Introduction to the Airport
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, located 16 km southwest of Amsterdam’s city centre, is the main airport in the Netherlands. Major cities around the Netherlands are easily accessible from the airport by excellent road and railway links. Singaporeans are allowed free 30-day visa-free entry into the Netherlands.
There is one terminal complex, which is split into three departure areas.
Services and Facilities
Lounge. There are four different lounges available where passengers can go to relax and chill before and after their flights. The airport lounges have varying operating hours and passengers are charged varying nominal fees for the use of the different facilities. Major airlines also have executive lounges.
Wifi/Internet Services. Free Wifi is available for an hour throughout the airport. Connect to the “KPN Network”. Passengers are allowed a maximum of two sessions at 30 minutes each. Alternatively, you can pay for Premium Wifi by credit card or in cash using the machines at the KPN Internet Zones. The KPN Internet Zones are located at the Schiphol Plaza and beyond Passport Control in Departure Lounge 1, 3 and 4 as well as Pier C and D.
Business & Conference. There is a large range of dedicated business facilities at the airport to cater for business travellers. The Schiphol Airport Meeting Centre is equipped with basic business facilities, secretarial services and a conference room. The Schiphol Airport Avioport business centre, a ten-minute walk from the terminal, is well-equipped with offices and leisure facilities. The Exchange Avenue Conference Centre is equipped with six meeting rooms and can hold a maximum of 80 delegates.
Shopping. There is a large array of shops at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol with duty-free outlets, a 24-hour supermarket and various clothing shops including H&M. The airport’s “See Buy Fly” shopping centre allows passengers to shop at a wide range of top brands, allowing them to pick up their tax-free purchases on returning to Amsterdam. The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam Schiphol also has a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs.
General Services. There are numerous banks, ATMs and currency exchange machines, making it convenient for passengers. Passengers wanting to post their letters and other items overseas, can head to the post office located in departure lounge 2. Telephone units, Internet access and SMS services are situated throughout the airport. There is a medical centre, 24-hour emergency medical services and a pharmacy available for the convenience of passengers. The airport is also well- equipped with a massage parlour, hairdresser and a prayer room equipped with a library of various religious texts. If you are on transit, you might want to try your luck at the casino. The Sheraton Fitness and Spa offers passengers with a day pass unlimited usage of the gym, sauna, spa and showers for a nominal fee. There is also an XD theatre which screens a variety of 3D movies.
Eating Facilities. There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and bars available throughout the airport, serving anything from seafood to Dutch pancakes to grilled meat. 24-hour are also available.
Car Rental Facilities. There is a variety of car hire companies: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Eurocar, Hertz and National available at the Schiphol Plaza that rent cars.
Transit Hotels. Most of the hotels at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol are connected either by underground walkways or shuttle buses. The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Hotel and the CitizenM Schiphol Amsterdam Airport offers modern boutique style rooms. For something more affordable, Sheraton Amsterdam Hotel and Conference Centre comes to mind. And for the budget- conscious traveller, there is always the Mercure Schiphol Terminal Hotel and the Yotel Schiphol Airport which provides modern rooms with basic facilities at affordable prices.
