Good Price, Special Experience but Spartan Accommodation.

What was good:
Wonderful hosts, who really went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Introduced us to good food locations and actually took us out in their family car to the more exotic late night food places. At the end of the trip, it was bittersweet as we had made close friends.
Space itself is spartan, simple and clean. Don't expect 5 star luxury at this price, lets be realistic. But suggest you communicate your needs to the hosts and they should accomodate. They bent backwards to handle a special request we made and were super flexible.
Location location location. EDM Space is walking distance of great food locations. Right smack in the middle of the city.
Unusual Outdoor Rain Shower. They have an outdoor open shower on the roof top. Pretty private space. Water is clean and it is fun to shower in the noon day sun or moonlight.
What wasn't so good:
Simple accommodations mean just that. If it is the peak season you might be placed in a simple partitioned space and sleep on a Japanese style futonon the floor. So ensure that you contact the hosts and be specific with your needs and also be willing to pay a bit more for a more private space.
Bulk of accommodation are upstairs, and if you don't have good knees it could be a problem. But again, these are more affordable accommodations and perhaps aimed at a segment of the population that is more nimble (and ahem, younger).
Potential for theft, ensure that you get a locker key and store your valuables in them.
In summary, an excellent experience, a great price, and well worth a visit again.

Really nice place to stay in Ipoh.

We really enjoyed our time here. We stayed in one of the privat spaces which was fun to experience. The owner and his family were super nice and helpful :) Their employee from Indonesia is doing a great job on keeping the place very clean & is an incredibly nice & lovely person. And we loved the little kitty & the rabbit! Sooo cute.
I think it really is up to the people who stay
in the privat or open spaces to be considerate of others during the night time (don't turn on the lights after 12, be quiet & don't listen to loud music - i mean who does that? XD)
It is true that the Wifi isn't the best, but it was sufficient for texting & looking up stuff.
So overall a great place to stay in Ipoh (it is very close to the center).
We would totally stay here again ;)

Not a proper hostel, noisy but clean

I stayed there for few days, receptionist was a little girl with her two sisters . All primary school children. They were polite and nice. The place is quite clean and Indonesian maid doing a good job. But, the place was given to me was surprising a sandbag inside living room, something I never have seen in my life. Rooms which I saw were paper thin walls and open ceiling, even turning on light in one room, could bright next rooms. Place was crazy noisy, they allow and prefer big group locals to stay and mostly Chinese, which are quite noisy and don't care much about surrounding area and other people. I didn't get good feeling like a proper hostel to make friends and meet people. Staircase was quite noisy to upper floor and early morning, before 7 u could hear loud noise of kids going up and down. They use hostel area also as playground of kids and their friends. I couldn't get a good sleep. WiFi was horrible, I used my phone data instead. And the user with two reviews of this guesthouse Mr. Marcus, is the owner. So I thing it's not right to give good reviews about our own property

Dear Enkidu,
It's sad to read your review after which you have still chosen to stay in our little guest house with poor wifi for MYR 15 per night! (Which is definitely the cheapest in town or not the whole of Malaysia). Firstly let us thank you for your interests to extend your stay with us for additional 3 more days after your 2 stay stay even though you kinda dislike what we can offer to you at such low budget price nonetheless, here are a few points that we would love to highlight and clarify. -
1. We are so sorry for the wifi is slow as in Ipoh is still not Fiber friendly yet even though we would love to upgrade but just not available along our area not to mention we are right in central town. Simply put it, it's slow here, you know why ya. (^.^) But the ay, for your understanding, our internet was hack on the same day... something went really wrong somehow. We have to uptight our cyber security probably.
2. For RM15, hot shower, rain shower, clean carpeted flooring, Aircon, access keycard, lockers and Giant Synthetic leather black bean bed is what we designed and made ourselves, literally. It was for the budgeted traveller who wants the security and comfort for a super cheap budget of rm15 which we seriously are not making any $ outta this. Friends of the same trade were telling us giving such low price will encourage retard traveller who may be internet savvy but would tarnish or bombard back at us even without realise that they are receiving far more than what it cost us to build and maintain for them. Maybe that's why no one offer such crazy deal here in Malaysia. Nonetheless, we knew there are lots of others who will still appreciate our gestures of "giving more".
3. Yes, we have 3 smaller rooms at just rm50 per night which is separated by partition walls with lock doors. Yup, you can hear the next room chatting if they are speaking out loud as it was meant to be so. It's must cheaper than a Dorm and maybe it's more soundproof with double decker bunk bed a meter apart from each other right? LOL (^.^) This is seriously the best price and ways we designed for our guests who would love the prices with the minimum privacy wall in between them @ rm50 for 2 guests.
4. Yes, our open space area are for people to mingle and make friends. May not be suitable for solo guest who prefer a ultra quiet moment. Seriously. We do have private room, ear plug and eye mask @ cost price on demand though. Nonetheless,, we did give a good spacking to those kids that treated #EDMSpace like playground. O ya, it's the school holiday, you were just too lucky to meet a whole bus load of local university girls and boys. But you did chat up with one of the girls didn't you? (^.^)
5. O ya, months back, we did have guests that log in through our coms and decided to give us a good review, they must have log in to our account. Nevertheless, we would look into it and remove them. We don't like to self praise as we don't need to too. (^.^)
Happy Hacking! Safe trip out there!

Unpleasant stay

Paid for private space and checked in to private room. However we were moved to shared room 3 hours after check in when we were out. We went back to hostel to try to cancel and the owner are unable to help us to cancel. Asked us to directly settle with hotels.com instead. I really at wits end as my credit card has been swiped 2 days before. We still try to maintain a happy stay. We asked about parking around the area. Owner told us that it's free without parking coupon needed. Next morning we got a RM20 fine for street parking without coupon... That's really the last straw!!! Terrible unpleasant stay

We did not work with hotel.com but probably the affiliate company we work with sell our services to them. Nonetheless, there were misunderstanding over on their end. For rm50 per couple, it's nearly impossible to find a place to stay privately in Malaysia or probably worldwide I guess. Street Parking is payable or there wouldn't be summon officer engage and paid to patrol from Monday to Sat from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Sunday is FREE though! Is where you are coming from, Street Parking is free? O ya, It's still FREE after 5:30pm till next day morning 8:30am. Didn't we mentioned clearly? Form the place I came from, it's chargeable 24/7.
Sorry for the cheap price paid stay and sorry for the summon that you kanna from the local traffic police officer of our lovely Malaysia. (^.^)

Cool backpack studio for affordable price

If you're like me and the company I was travelling with; adventurous, you'll love this place. Outdoor showers and common room with bean bags and ps3 over wide screen TV. Aroma dispenser and air conditioned. We were told that we were the first ones to sleep in the attic dormitory, and it was awesome. I love the bean bed. The place is clean and well kept. For a price you have to pay it's a win.
