Fabulous hotel

Amazing hotel with fabulous staff. Couldn't do enough for us. Highly recommend Perfect location right on the beach and not far into rethymnon itself. Your room is cleaned DAILY. Spotless always. Food plenty to choose from. One stay is never enough you'll want to return every year.

Disappointing Stay Due to Poor Service and Room Issues

Overall, our stay was disappointing, mainly because of the service rather than the hotel itself.
Our room had an iron but no ironing board. There was only one pillow in the room, and reception told us they didn’t have any extras available.
The biggest issue was our room allocation. We had booked and paid for a Superior Room, but on our first night we were placed in what appeared to be a standard room. It overlooked a concrete wall, was below car park level, and felt dark and gloomy. The room was also noticeably smaller than the Superior Room we had booked and were eventually moved into, making it obvious that we had not been given the room we had paid for. We were only moved after I questioned whether we had actually been allocated the correct room. Had I not asked, I don’t believe we would have been moved.
This completely disrupted our first evening and following morning, as we couldn’t properly unpack before having to move rooms. Despite the inconvenience, nobody apologised or offered to help us move our luggage. The explanation we were given about travel delays and cancellations didn’t really make sense, especially as I had booked the holiday six months in advance and had emailed the hotel three times beforehand requesting a nice room, mentioning that we were celebrating my mum’s 50th birthday.
We also requested a kettle for the room, but weren’t given a cup to make tea. We eventually had to ask the bar staff if they could spare one. It summed up the stay really—everything seemed to require unnecessary effort.
The hotel feels like it has all the right ingredients but falls short in the details and customer service.
The half-board buffet was fairly disappointing, although we had some excellent meals at local tavernas and in Rethymno instead.
The pool area itself is nice, but there aren’t enough sun loungers around it, and I was surprised that guests have to pay an additional €8 per day to use the hotel’s beach sun loungers. It feels odd to pay extra for facilities that are part of the hotel. It’s also worth noting that this took place in 2026, and on one occasion I was wearing long linen trousers and a bikini when a member of staff told me, in his words, that it was “not very nice.” I don’t appreciate being told what to wear.
One experience on our final evening perfectly summed up the service. We’d spent a wonderful day at a nearby beach away from the hotel and arrived back just five minutes before the half-board buffet closed. I simply wanted to grab something quick to eat before going upstairs to shower and get ready for the evening. I was still wearing my beachwear, which seemed perfectly reasonable given that this is a beachfront hotel and I was eating in the hotel’s buffet—not a formal restaurant. A waiter approached me and told me that I should cover up next time I came for dinner. I found this unnecessary and quite irritating. The buffet food was very average, and being spoken to like that when I was simply trying to make use of the meal I’d already paid for left a sour taste.
Overall, the stay wasn’t terrible, and the hotel itself has plenty of potential. However, the poor room allocation, inconsistent customer service, lack of communication, and complete absence of even a simple apology left a lasting negative impression. Unfortunately, these issues overshadowed what could have been a much more enjoyable stay.

Two weeks of pure joy

This was our first stay at this hotel. The reviews were promising and we were hoping for a pleasant stay. But Kathrin Beach hotel is much more than that! Very good location, comfort by the sandy beach, renovated rooms, great cuisine, and above all very friendly and quick staff.
We stayed for two weeks and during all this time everything was perfect. We also rented a car and visited some beautiful beaches in the west and south of Crete.
What else do I like to remember?
Nice welcome by Lena and Maria at the reception (thanks for the ground floor room and for the plant seeds).
Smiling faces of the cleaners from the Philippines.
Excellent freddo cappuccino at the beach bar, prepared by Stella;)
And pampering by the chef, who prepared a variety of delicious main courses and desserts every evening, with always smiling restaurant chef Babis and other staff.
I also liked the fact that they grow plants so carefully here, from flowering to those for shade. I also saw small plants behind the reception - a plant nursery. There is nothing to fear for the future of this hotel and its staff - congratulations and all the best!
I hope to come back soon;))

Always happy

This is my fourth time here and it feels like we are coming home. I have always been warmly welcomed. The location is great, the team is fantastic and always helpful. This year I have been here twice, currently with my girlfriend. She, too, will come back next year.

Never again

For us, unfortunately, never again. Rooms are good, beds also fine. View was the parking lot. Not enough storage space. Family room has 1 wardrobe and 2 bedside tables, there are 2 too few. No rack in the bathroom for your stuff. No drying rack on balcony. Air conditioning very weak. After a report of this 4 days have to wait for a mechanic. After a big fight with the manager and demanding another room, the air conditioning was only fixed. Not exactly welcoming to me. Food very moderate, cold and very limited .breakfast is except Monday every day the same and very little choice. Luckily enough restaurants nearby. Sunbeds by the pool always occupied and far too little. Sunbeds on the beach are available for a fee. Pool is clean and nice water but the filters in the pool you cut your feet open. With all 4 of us happens and with my daughter until bleeding. Swimming shoes are therefore a must for the beach. Staff is friendly, manager I found less friendly after our run-in. We have had better hotels 3 star hotels in Crete.
