5 stars – We will definitely be back!

As a mom of two lively children, you are always a bit skeptical about whether a hostel is really family-friendly – but the Harz Hostel surprised me absolutely positively!
Already on arrival we were super warmly welcomed. The staff was totally nice, helpful and always available for a little chat – you felt directly welcome. The rooms were clean, cozy and absolutely sufficient for us as a family. The beds were comfy, and there was enough space, even if there were a bit of toys lying around
What I especially loved: the communal kitchen! Everything there you need, and especially super convenient if you're traveling with kids who don't always want to eat what's on the go. We had breakfast together in the morning, and it was nice to talk to other guests – a very family atmosphere!
The location is great by the way! In a few minutes you are surrounded by greenery, perfect for excursions and hikes – even with strollers well doable. And also the place itself is not far, if you ever have to shop or feel like an ice cream (which was the case with us daily of course ).
Conclusion: We felt completely comfortable. If you are looking for uncomplicated, warm and clean accommodation in the Harz Mountains, this is the place for you – even (or especially) with children. We will definitely come back!
Best regards from family M.

No staff at all, denying us access to the services we paid for

We booked to stay in a room at this hostel in January. There was not a single staff member there the entire time, despite the hostel advertising that they pride themselves on friendly staff. Instead, the key was left outside in a lock box and we were expected to check ourselves in and out.
They advertise that there is a kitchen, but this is only available with a key from reception. As reception was unstaffed the whole time, we could not access the kitchen.
Furthermore, we booked with the expectation that we would be able to leave luggage there on the day we checked out, as advertised. With no staff around, we could not leave out luggage, and with no storage at the train station either we were almost not able to go to the castle, which was the primary purpose for going to Wernigerode in the first place.
When booking, we were told that we would pay in person upon arrival and that the card details we provided would only be used to secure our booking and not charged. The cost was then charged to the card a week before we arrived, along with another €22 charge from the hostel that was never explained.
The rooms were comfortable and spacious, overall good value for money. The location was convenient - near to the train station and centre of town. However,
the lack of service and support was inexcusable. I would not stay here again.

Absolute recommendation – Perfect for groups!

We stayed as a group of friends (8 people in total) for an extended weekend at Harz Hostel – and what can we say: It was just awesome!
Everything was super organized from the beginning. The contact in advance was friendly and uncomplicated, and everything went smoothly even at check-in. We had booked several rooms and were totally delighted with how clean and cozy everything was. Each room had its own charm – you can see that they work with attention to detail.
Especially cool for us as a group was the communal area. Whether to sit together in the evening, cook together or just chat – we had a lot of space and could enjoy the time together without disturbing other guests. The kitchen was top equipped, everything clean and functional. And the common room even had games and sofas – really chill!
The location is also a dream: You are quickly in the place, but at the same time directly at nature. We did some great hikes and were able to relax in the hostel afterwards. Parking was also ample – definitely a plus for groups with several cars!
Conclusion: Harz Hostel is ideal for groups looking for affordable, cosy and hospitable accommodation in the Harz Mountains. We felt at ease and will definitely come back. Thanks to the team – you are doing a great job!
Many greetings from the whole squad

Excellent value and cozy stay!

We stayed here as a couple for a weekend getaway and loved it. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable – perfect after a day of hiking.
Breakfast was fresh and on time, bedding and towels were included, and the drink prices were totally reasonable. No TV, but with so much to do nearby, we didn’t need one!
The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the whole place had a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Great base for exploring the Harz – would definitely stay again!

Great hostel with great value for money!

We were positively surprised how much Harz Hostel offers – and at an absolutely fair price! Our room was quiet, clean and cozy – perfect for relaxing after a long day in the Harz mountains.
Breakfast was delicious and was served on time, just as advertised. Even if it is a hostel, we did not miss anything. Televisions are really not needed with so many excursions in the area.
We found the beverage vending machine with moderate prices particularly cool – definitely not a rip-off, but fair and practical. Bed linen and towels were included with us, everything was fresh and neatly prepared.
The atmosphere throughout the house was totally relaxed, the staff friendly and helpful. We had a really nice weekend and can only recommend the Harz Hostel – especially for young couples or friends who want to experience something!
