Awful trendy modern tiny

If you’re above 50, don’t book this hotel, you simply won’t have the mindset to think this is cool. I think this is a joke, but I can understand why people think it’s cool (it isn’t). The bed is this weird mattress on the floor at the end of the room, good luck not smashing your shins trying to get in it. There’s a tv at the end of the bed at kickable height. The room is about 8ft wide. There’s not enough room for me to even open my small suitcase, the shelf at the end of the bed is about 30cm, so can’t put it on there. It’s so small the sink isn’t in the shower compartment, or toilet compartment, it’s just in the main room next to the bed. There’s 1 plug socket in the whole room for me to use. I can’t charge my phone and reach for it as an alarm at night/in the morning cos the socket is by the door. The lights by the bed don’t work for the main room light, so the main light switch by the door needs to be turned off before you walk to the bed on the floor (careful; don’t bang your toes on anything). The one pillow I have on the double bed is extremely lumpy, and stiff. If this was €60 a night (I’m here in 2026) I’d probably say this is all fine. But I’m here for work so I dread to think what they’ve paid for this. If someone else has booked this for you, bring shin pads, a power bank, multi-plug adapter, and a pillow.
I love the CRT TVs, and the guitars in the lobby, I love the Marshall amps, and the cocktails are nice too, but this is pretty poverty, mutton dressed as lamb as we’d say in the uk.

Hey Sunshine,
Thanks for laying it all out so clearly. We’re sorry your stay didn’t feel comfortable or intuitive. The experience you describe isn’t what we want anyone to take away from Ruby Lilly, and we appreciate you sharing what didn’t work for you.
At Ruby, we love getting creative with our room designs. Since our hotels are often located in unique, existing buildings, we make the most of every inch with clever layout plans and space-saving furnishings. This results in rooms with diverse layouts and features, like stage beds, which many of our guests truly love. If you’re unsure whether a room with this feature is right for you, just let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to offer you an alternative that suits your preferences. We can’t wait to make your stay as special and comfy as possible. For anyone who prefers more room to spread out, our larger Lovely or Wow categories are the better match, with the Wow rooms offering noticeably more space to move around. If storage is a priority, booking Lovely or Wow gives you more options, and if you tell us at reservation time, we can place you in a room that includes a wardrobe.
Your notes on the switch placement, charging points and pillow comfort are heard. Rest and ease-of-use should feel effortless, and we’re sorry that wasn’t your experience.
It’s good to hear you enjoyed the lobby touches and the cocktails. If you choose to return, let us know the space and setup you prefer, and we’ll guide you to a room that’s more in tune with your needs.

Wonderful Stay at Ruby Lilly - 1st Time in Munich

We stayed at the Ruby Lilly for 4 nights in March of 2026 and had a fab first experience in Munich!
The hotel is beautiful, very reasonably priced considering it appears very up market and well designed. Staff are very friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The room was great - wonderful view from the window with a little window seat too which was a bonus. Shower was great and has shampoo/conditioner and soap if you’ve forgotten your own. TV on wall. Bed nice and comfy too. Our only reason for the 4 as opposed to 5 stars is the galley - we knew this was the case upon booking but we do feel it could be more stocked and the vending machine was quite pricey. We’re from the UK - we love our cuppas when coming back to the room so having no tea/coffee left at times wasn’t ideal for us personally. Apart from that there’s nothing we could complain about. Location was fab - it’s not a far walk from Marienplatz, around 20ish mins. There’s a local convenience store (halal) with plenty for a packed lunch and water too, and friendly staff. We saw a few reviews about the area being unsafe but didn’t have this experience whatsoever - never felt uncomfortable or unsafe and felt the walk to Marienplatz and other tourist areas was pleasant and not far at all. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend Munich to anyone, it’s a beautiful city with some of the friendliest people we’ve met. Thank you for having us, Ruby Lilly!
Tips: We took the train to Salzburg for the day - highly recommend, very chill day and plenty to do from museums to cute little eateries.
The transport is pretty poor - expect delays with trains, apparently this is a common and well known issue in Germany as a whole so was just a given.
Do visit the market just off Marienplatz, does wonderful food and is great to walk around.
Hofbrauhaus is worth the visit as a typical tourist - great history and lovely inside. But the food isn’t the best - stick with a beer.
If you want a good schnitzel try Steinheil 16 - just a 5/10 min walk and was absolutely delicious, probably our best meal of the whole trip.

Hey Jenco27,
Thanks a lot for the lovely review and for choosing Ruby Lilly for your first Munich trip. We’re delighted you enjoyed the look and feel of the hotel, the comfy bed, that window seat with the view, and the easy touches like the rain shower and in-room bits. Hearing that our hosts made you feel well looked after is exactly what we hope for.
Great to know the location worked so well for your exploring. Being right in the centre of Munich’s buzz means you can wander to Marienplatz and the sights without fuss, which is why Ruby Lilly makes a handy launchpad for days out and evenings back.
About your note on the Galley and prices at the machine, thanks for flagging it. Our Lean Luxury philosophy keeps the focus on essentials and smart design, and for a more indulgent setup, we suggest our larger room categories. If extra space is top of the list next time, our Wow or Lovely rooms give you more room to unwind while keeping the same calm style.
Your travel tips are gold. Salzburg by train makes a brilliant day trip, and we’re glad Munich felt welcoming throughout your stay.
We’d love to welcome you back for another easy city break whenever you’re in town again.

Great hotel for a Munich stay

Great vibe, relaxed but upscale. Small enough to be noticed and remembered. I mean, who needs an ironing board in every room? They use a galley concept on each floor with that and coffee/tea self service. Very thoughtful offerings. 24 hour bar with food available 24/7 very handy. They made a great Negroni - several times. Nice breakfast buffet. Good location with easy connection to transit. Walkable to lots of things too. Stay there!

Hey Kikiman97,
Thanks for the brilliant review. It’s lovely to hear our relaxed, polished vibe hit home and that the little touches made a difference. The Galleys are exactly meant for that grab-and-go ease, with hot drinks on hand and those practical bits tucked away when you need them. And we’re delighted the bar kept you company around the clock — sounds like our Negronis found a fan.
Breakfast setting you up nicely, and the size of the place feeling personal is exactly the rhythm we aim for. Also great to hear the location worked so well for you. Being right in the heart of Munich’s buzz means you’ve got an easy jump onto the U‑Bahn and plenty that’s walkable from the door, so it’s a handy base for exploring.
Would be a pleasure to welcome you back for another round, whether it’s for city roaming or simply a well-made nightcap.

Hey Carolina,
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We’re delighted the location worked so well for you. Being right in the heart of Munich’s buzz makes Ruby Lilly a handy base for getting around and soaking up the city, with public transport just a stroll away. It’s also lovely to hear our hosts made you feel welcome and that breakfast stood out for all the right reasons.
We're sorry to read there was dust during your stay. That’s not the standard we aim for. We want every corner to feel fresh and well cared for, so your note is appreciated.
We’d love to see you again when Munich calls next, and we’ll be ready to make it an even smoother stay.
