Unique little find in hippieville!
I'd say from the ponto (the footbridge that you will come to know) it's about a 15 min walk. It is not easily accessible and in rain, climbing up with a backpack is quite the struggle, so do bear this in mind!! I'm no pro hiker but would say difficultly level 2 once you start properly ascending to the hostel, but only for around 8 minutes! Bear in mind that this walk is something you'll have to do a lot as there is nothing around the hostel at the top, but of course it's not so bad without a backpack!
That aside, the hostel itself is a hippy dream. A big wooden house surrounded by lovely greenery, hammocks to lie in, with the cutest/ friendliest house dog Poroto (bean in Spanish). The owner Maia (a wonderful Uruguayan lady) and her companion Gilberto (Brasilian) are really warm and welcoming hosts, always up for conversing and like all things green ;). The views are sensational, you are able to see the sea from both the terrace and the balcony from one of the dorms. This little beach can be accessed on foot in 5 mins too!
The dorms themselves, well there are only two. One downstairs that sleeps 8 people and another upstairs which sleeps maybe 10 people. As you would imagine, with lots of greenery, come mosi's but luckily all the beds have nets. There are no fans / beds but being by the beach and high up, it's pretty cool so was fine. The rooms have massive glass panel windows, so there was always a breeze. We slept well every night. The dorms also have underbed lockers, so be sure to bring a padlock, although I felt all of our stuff was very safe the entire time!
The shower room has 6 showers so enough to cater for all, we never had to wait once. The toilet is slightly annoying as its upstairs and you have to walk into the second dorm and the stairs leading to it are so creaky! Probably the hostels only downfall is this; they also do not feel very private with sliding plastic doors *cue a shy bladder*. If this had been different, my review would have been 5* for sure!
The kitchen (photo 2) is so cute, with a oven, stove, all the crockery and utensils you need and there's enough fridge space for everyone. The hostel is maintained and cleaned well.
If you're looking for a chilled hostel, and not a social party hostel, this is definitely the place to go. When I return to Barra, for sure I will return to the hostel!
MUITA OBRIGADA PELO TUDO MAIA E BERTO! :)
Tip: to find the hostel follow the signs for Barra Beach Club hostel and then eventually you'll see signs for Hostel do Morro, where you'll enter what you think is a property but leads to another pathway!

Lovely hostel
Cons: lots of mosquitos, all the beds have mosquito nets but a bunch managed to get under my net. So bring some bug spray
