Emerging from the chaos of the Austrian wars, the second largest region of Italy, Piedmont, has been the diamond in the rough – that amid all the challenges faced by the Italians in the olden times, it has and it still is – maintaining its beauty and its haunting class and elegance, arguably the most elegant gem of Italy. The region is found in Northwest Italy, next to the border of France, giving an impression that most of Piedmont is in fact influenced by the French tradition. It also looks like a French territory: streets lined up with ornate and intricate facades boasting wealth and glamour, coupled with its offerings of good and slow food and fine wines and spirits. But as its visitors scratch even an inch or so of its surface, they will be awestruck with the Italian tradition sprinkled and highlighted all over the place.

Administratively, Piedmont is divided into eight provinces, namely Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novarra, Turin, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, and Vercelli, and geographically, also includes the distinct regions of Langhe, Monferrato, and Roero Hills. Moreover, the region also shares borders with Switzerland, and the other regions of Lombardy, Liguria, Emilia-Romagna, and Aosta Valley. Having said this, the region has been frequented by many tourists, contributing to the stable tourism of Italy.
