Car Rentals

There are local car rentals that you can book prior to your arrival flight to Yangon International Airport. Some companies may be available for self-drive car hire, though you are strictly required to have both of your driving licenses, the photocard and the paper counterpart, and show it to the car rent company before you can drive. The airport does not have any hotels available on its complex. However, there are several Yangon International Airport hotels that can be reached within a close distance from the airport. Terminals

The airport has been undergoing a complete renovation, giving it a new look that features 3 terminals. Terminal 1 is a six-story building that hosts international flights to Yangon International Airport.

Terminal 2 is currently going for a renovation since 2018. It is planned to have a complete range of facilities such as a shopping arcade, restaurants, retail outlets, and hotels on the area. The former terminal 2 served domestic flights, but now it is being temporarily handled by Terminal 3.

After the renovation, the airport is set to serve around 6 million passengers every year, almost three times its former capacity which was only at 2.7 million passengers annually.

Transportation

Though there is no integrated railway on the airport, it provides travelers with a shuttle bus service that transport between the airport and the city of Yangon. The bus stops at 13 spots, including areas like 8 Mile, Kaba-Aye Pagoda, and Sule Pagoda. It also connects the airport with the Central Railways Station in case you need to go to other destinations in the country. The fare is around 0.45 SGD for one trip.

You can find taxis available outside of the airport. Still, it is more recommended to use Grab or the local Oway Ride. The fares on these apps should be more reasonable than negotiating with the driver directly. The standard fare from the airport to the city center of Yangon should be around 7 SGD.

It is also advisable to be aware of negotiating driver and tourists asking for a shared ride. Though it is perfectly okay to share a taxi rides, you should take extra care and consideration before deciding to get in contact with strangers.

Wi-Fi

A free Wi-Fi connection is available exclusively at the Sky Smile Executive Lounge. The lounge is open from 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM. You can find the lounge at the airside of the international terminal. The free connection can be accessed after you purchase a single use pass to the lounge.

If you are going directly to the city after your flight, you can also buy a local SIM card at the airport. There are at least 3 brands of SIM card that are available on the airport: Ooredo, MPT, and Telenor. You can pick the one with the best price of the data package that fits your budget.
