Flights to Frankfurt, Germany

The city of Frankfurt is technically served by 2 international airports - Flughafen Frankfurt am Main (also known as Frankfurt Airport) and Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn. However, the smaller Frankfurt-Hahn Airport is located a good 120 kilometres from the city centre of Frankfurt (which is, in fact, the same distance between the airport and Luxembourg) and only handles short-haul regional flights. As such, most travellers will arrive at Frankfurt am Main Airport, the main international gateway into the city and also the busiest airport in Germany (as of December 2016).

  • Frankfurt am Main Airport is located about 12-15 kilometres from the city centre. A taxi ride to the city would cost about €30 (SGD 45.88) and take 20-30 minutes.

Best Time to Visit Frankfurt

Frankfurt is an evergreen holiday destination, with plenty of good weather and festivities to be enjoyed throughout the year. Summer is most tourists’ favourite time to visit, though, as the long sunlight hours and warmer weather make outdoor activities and sightseeing a joy. However, expect steep hotel room rates and swarms of crowds at popular tourist hangouts during this season. After summer, the months of September and October (otherwise known as Oktoberfest season) are the next busiest. In this joyous time of beer-drinking, bratwurst-eating and general merrymaking, Frankfurt becomes alive with music and good cheer as outdoor events are widespread throughout the city.

Things to do in Frankfurt

Though not the capital of Germany (that honour belongs to Berlin), Frankfurt is a cosmopolitan metropolis consistently ranked as one of the most liveable cities in the world. Here you can find skyscrapers located next to lush parks and gardens, Michelin-starred restaurants beside lively taverns, and an extensive public transport system that boasts of true German efficiency.

The birthplace of literary genius Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Frankfurt is also known as a cultural hub home to numerous world-renowned museums of art, architecture, film and more. Many of these can be found along the Frankfurt museum embankment (Museumsufer), a collection of 10 museums set side-by-side along the river Main.
