Frankfurt Car Rental Information

###Car Hire in Frankfurt

This information is correct as of July 2015.

Frankfurt, a city in Central Germany, is one of the major financial hubs of the region. It is also the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, one of the literary greats of his time. There are a number of historical sights you can also enjoy looking at here, such as the lovely Romerberg Plaza, which hosts the Christmas market every year. This makes the city exciting to explore, which can be possible due to several car rental options available.

###Where to hire a car in Frankfurt Car rental agencies are available in different parts of the city, but most of them converge around the city centre. Many of them are local, but there are at least four branches of Europcar, two of Avis, Hertz, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and one of Sixt in the main parts of the city. This allows you to consider various options in your search for a rental car.

The minimum age of driving in Germany is 17. The main requirements asked before being given the final papers for the rental are your local driving licences and an International Driver's Permit (IDP) if you are not from an EU country. If you are a holder of EU or EEA licences, on the other hand, you will also have to show a Community model national driving licence. Other documents may also apply, depending on the policy of the car rental operator you are transacting with.

###What to expect when hiring a car from Frankfurt It can be a delight to drive in Germany due to the scenery and the well-paved roads. This is also relatively true for Frankfurt. When you are behind the wheel, always drive on the right. Overtake to the left of the other vehicle only in free-flowing traffic. A right overtake should only occur in stationary traffic. It is also important that everyone in the car should wear their seatbelts. Every car seat in Germany has belts from the front seats to the rear. If you get involved in an accident, you are obliged to wait for the police to respond to your emergency call.

Avoiding the morning and late afternoon rush is important, as the roads can get crowded at these times. You should also take note of the toll roads around the area. Herren Tunnel and Warnow Tunnel are only two of these routes, which make it necessary for you to learn more about other roads. You also have to take note of the LEZ boundary, which requires that vehicles passing through should have a sticker. When going around, you will likely pass by the Strassenbahn, the local tramway. Bicycles are also a common sight in the city, which makes it important that you take care and keep your attention on the road. Parking is also provided in different parts of Frankfurt, but you must shelve enough time just in case of difficulties in finding an available spot.
