early 1920s and continued over the next 12 years, resulting in the ornate combination of architectural styles. Baroque and neoclassical features are present, along with Renaissance elements and local Vallartan influence. The cathedral is the center of Catholic religious life in the area and is particularly important in a 12-day festival held each December. As Puerto Vallarta's signature postcard monument, this elegant cathedral is a must-see.

In my travels through Europe, I've seen a lot of cathedrals. This one doesn't compare. But what makes it interesting is its history and the people who visit. Where European cathedrals are mostly museums, this one is a working, active church with a huge congregation. They love their church and work hard to protect it. Visit and look for the many festivals, food stands, pilgrims climbing the steps on their knees, etc. It's definitely worth a visit.

Faith is strong and miracles in the ethnic local story are played out daily as natives walk on their knees towards the head of the church to pray to this saint

It's a Must.. Mexico is a Catholic country, so whether you are Catholic or not; you still are welcome to the Cathedral to view the Mexican tradition of church going. From December 1st to the 12th the tradition is to pay honor to the Lady of Guadalupe, everyday there are Offerings and people walk from various points around to bring those offering to the Lady. During their walk, they sing, dance and dress according to the tradition

The grande dame of the old town, the inside of this cathedral is forgettable but the metal crown is distinctive and gorgeous. A must-see in PV.

Best know as Iglesia de Guadalupe, where in December from the 1-12th there are Pilgrims in favor to the Virgen of Guadalupe.
Mass schedule it is at the main door.

Just a short walk from the Malacon Boardwalk is the gorgeous church. Inside it is simple but striking with flowers, religious art and gold detailing. A great stop to take a peaceful break from all the commotion of the Malacon.

This is a stunning building and the heart of Puerto Vallarta. We love it, especially, at night when the crown is lit up.

Located in the center of town, Our Lady of Guadalupe has a distinct Mexican architecture but is reminiscent of the grand edifices that grace Europe.

Construction of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe began in the late 19th century and ended in the early years of the 20th century. I particularly liked how the crown of Our Lady rests on top of the Church.

Not really a cathedral but a church, but it is an iconic emblem of Puerto Vallarta.
