Description
The Tower of Hercules has served as a lighthouse and landmark at the entrance of La Coruña harbour in north-western Spain since the late 1st century A.D. when the Romans built the Farum Brigantium. ... Read more
The Tower, built on a 57 metre high rock, rises a further 55 metres, of which 34 metres correspond to the Roman masonry and 21 meters to the restoration directed by architect Eustaquio Giannini in the 18th century, who augmented the Roman core with two octagonal forms. In 2009 it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To look good, does not seem like a lighthouse, but a mighty tower.
Its history goes back much addientro But over time, because this imposing building is due to the Romans, around the second century AD datat

His job was to be their to guide ships at sea, and dedicated to Mars, that would protect Brigantium, nothing that today's A Coruña.

Initially conceived as a square tower (18 meters from the side, like today), it measured 36 meters, but was later brought up to current 48 and altered in its appearance during the years of the Middle Ages.

To date, the tower is open to charges and access to the top with 242 steps.

Very beautiful is the rose of the winds below the tower, built with all the tiles with different symbols to indicate the various directions.

In addition to the glazed windows, another of the symbols of the city of A Coruña is the Tower of Hercules. This tower is nothing more than a beacon, but what a beacon! It was built by the Romans in the second century and is the oldest in the world that is still in operation. It is also remodeled and is in very good condition being possible to visit inside. Although the legend tells that it has been built by Hercules himself, to whom the tower owes its name, it is a must in the city, both to see from the outside and to climb and fight against the wind that comes from the Atlantic. Beautiful.
