crater of Furnas volcano, which created the centre of the island of Sao Miguel. The volcano has been dormant since 1630 but the ground is still hot. I recommend to sleep in Furnas village, where there are plenty of nice accomodation, instead of just coming for a day trip to enjoy the trails and hot springs. One full day was defintely not enough in my favourite place in Sao Miguel!

Furnas village is quite pleasant, a lot of restaurants, everything on a walking distance ( terra nostra garden and poça dona beija).
