Dhaka City Holidays

Noisy, chaotic, and bustling are just three words to describe this traffic-jammed, energetic city -- one that can easily overwhelm the unprepared visitor. But to fit in, you must dive in. Embrace the chaos: jump on the back of a rickshaw, take a boat ride along the Buriganga River (where water traffic is nearly as congested as the roads), and step ... Read more
into the first overflowing restaurant you see. To escape (a bit), you can lounge around one of the city's impressively green parks, tap into your own spirituality at a mosque or Hindu temple, or explore a museum -- the city's arts and history scene is thriving and beautifully reflective of Bengali culture.

Dhaka is a city of disguise. People with good soul can have feel the real Dhaka. People only talk about what they see infront of their eyes but do not feel it until you go to the depth. It is not about the food, population, security etc which is common in any country. There are other things to feel by heart. Find it and you know it.

This is not your typical tourist attraction, but it gives great insight into the extreme density in which people in South Asia are living and the future of many already overcrowded cities where populations continue to grow faster than the infrastructure meant to support them.

Dhaka

Dhaka is my home city. I born here. I love Dhaka. It is one of the busiest metropolitan city of the world. The population of the city is very high. It is 400 years old city. You can visit lot of historical places located in old Dhaka.

Lonely Planet might capture it best: "Dhaka is more than just a city, it is a giant whirlpool that sucks in anything and anyone foolish enough to come within its furious grasp. Around and around it sends them, like some wildly spinning fairground ride bursting with energy. Millions of individual pursuits constantly churn together into a frenzy of collective activity – it is an urban melting pot bubbling over."

Dhaka is extremely chaotic, but filled with life and energy. Gulshan and Banani are the "nicer", expat regions but I stayed in Mirpur-1 as an intern with Grameen Bank.
