Boston Hotel Insider
Fans cheering at Fenway Park, schoolchildren marvelling at historic Faneuil Hall, academics sweating it out at one of the city’s many universities, or musicians in black tie gearing up for an evening at the Pops are all typical sights and sounds of Boston, a historic New England city that has long been a top American destination. Here’s our guide to the best places to stay, whatever your price range.

Luxury Hotels in Boston
Boston’s best luxury hotels are also some of its most historic. The Fairmont Copley Plaza was built in 1912 and combines history with modern day amenities like a rooftop health club. Try their Oak Bar for a hand-crafted cocktail. The neighboring Lenox Hotel was built in 1900 for just $1 million - a fortune at the time. Gold interiors and heavy drapes give off a classic air fit to make anyone feel rich. The luxurious Omni Parker House, first opened in 1855 and situated along the Freedom Trail, also invented the Boston crème pie, making it a great choice for a luxury family getaway. All three are also excellent choices for business travellers. The Boston Harbor Hotel is located on one of the oldest wharfs in the nation, making it a great option for those who want to delve into the city’s fascinating history without sacrificing any amenities.

Mid-Range Boston Hotels
There are many mid-range hotels within the city limits as well, including the large chains Best Western, Courtyard by Marriott, Hampton Inn, Hilton, and Hyatt Regency. If independence is more your style, choose from one of the many privately-owned lodging options, including The Charlesmark, The Harborside Inn, and the Seaport Hotel Boston.

Families traveling to Boston might consider such family-friendly hotels as the Colonnade Hotel in the Back Bay area, which often offers weekend getaway packages for those traveling with kids; the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge, which hosts a Summerfest during July and August; and the Doubletree Guest Suites, ideal for parents looking for a little more privacy during their vacation. Mid-priced hotels in Boston range in cost from about $150 to $225 per night. Lower priced options are available but prices under $150 are rare except during shoulder seasons.

Hotels by Neighborhood
The Freedom Trail is a stretch of brick pathway that winds through the city and visits 17 significant historical sites including Old North Church, the Boston Common, Paul Revere House, Faneuil Hall, the Massachusetts State House, the USS Constitution, and several burial grounds. Hotels near the Freedom Trail include the high-end, Beaux Arts-style XV Beacon, the mid-range Boston Marriott Long Wharf, or the very affordable, and even pet-friendly, MidTown Hotel.

Exploring Cambridge’s Harvard University, buzzy Harvard Square, and the quaint streets of the area right up to the Charles River is another popular focus for a trip to Boston. The Ivy League institution is close to a number of cool hotels. The Charles Hotel is a perfect spot and includes a lively jazz club and an ice skating rink during the winter months. Similarly, the Hyatt Regency Cambridge is just steps from Harvard Square and features the good service and lovely facilities you’d expect from Hyatt.
