Austin Holidays

Austin has such an eclectic and funky vibe, it just might take you by surprise. Besides being the place where Willie Nelson made a name for himself, president George W. Bush governed (the state capital is popular among tourists) and cyclist Lance Armstrong battled cancer, it's arguably the live music capital of the world. Visitors to Austin like to ... Read more
hit the bars and music clubs near the University, and this whole scene has its culmination every March with the South by Southwest Music Festival, where 1,400 bands participate. Hiking and biking are popular in the hills, and Barton Creek is always a good place to swim, tan, and enjoy the Texas scenery. Popular day trips outside Austin are to New Braunfels and historic Gruene, Texas. The food is consistently a highlight here, so try some of the smoked brisket or sausage at The Salt Lick in Driftwood before you head out of town.

Austin’s summers can be pretty overwhelming for those not used to the heat. The winter in the Texan capital is mild, but for an ideal visit, shoot for spring and fall when the city’s famed cultural calendar is ... Read more

Sixth street offers plenty of options for entertainment every day of the week. Austin is centrally located as well and San Antonio (6 Flags, Seaworld, River Walk, Alamo) and Houston (Johnson Space Center) are well within reach. The Texas Hill Country, river floats, and Schlitterbahn water park are also appealing options. You can’t really go wrong in this area.

As a native Houstonian and former Austin denizen, I’d be remiss to omit details of its beautiful, metropolitan chaparral: for the adventurous I’d recommend the auburn slopes of Enchanted Rock or a hike along the impact greenbelt. Silkier park is ideal for families, ACL hosts the hipster holy grail of music festivals, and SXSW is an ideal proscenium for indie filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts alike. As for food, Torchys Tacos cannot be missed, neither so is the amazing Mexican vanilla at Amy’s Ice Cream - it almost makes me regret going vegan...almost.

Foster City

A lot newer and cleaner than I’ve expected. Lots of new shiny glass tall buildings and very clean hipster type city.

Local from Austin

Austin is an incredible city. Whatever your taste, Austin has it. It is extremely welcoming and friendly and has some of the best food in the country. Get yourself some live music and tacos ya'll you're in the capital of the Lone Star state now.

Cool city, lots of music venues. Though, It's very very humid and hot. Not surprised since I'm originally from Dallas.
