China Southern Flights

When it comes to the world's largest commercial flight carriers, China Southern Airlines makes it to the top. It is reportedly Asia's largest airline in fleet size and number of passengers carried, mainly due to its regular routes that take travellers across to major transport hubs in China. China Southern has its main hub in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport with secondary hubs in Beijing-Capital International Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, and Urumqi Diwopu International Airport. These make only some of the busiest transport areas in this region of China, as millions of domestic and foreign travellers go around to see the popular sights here.

Founded in 1988, the airline grew quickly with six million passengers handled in 1991. Orders for Boeing planes and other large-sized models were submitted late into the following year, which heralded the start of more growth. Foreign investments followed in 1994, which first connected China Southern with Amsterdam, Los Angeles, Sydney, and Melbourne. More codeshare agreements were signed to increase the number of short- and long-haul international flights, with mergers and acquisitions of local airlines such as Zhongyuan Airlines in 2000, as well as China Northern Airlines and China Xinjiang Airlines in 2001. The giant airline also took over shareholding stocks in numerous carriers such as Xiamen Airlines and Chongqing Airlines, as well as invested in Sichuan Airlines among a few more.

Today, China Southern is poised to continuously expand its line-up of flights. It has made its inaugural flight to Vancouver, Canada in 2004 and embarked on a first flight on the 'Canton Route' between Guangzhou to London-Heathrow. The airline is also set to look for connections in the 'Kangaroo Route' or the Australasia region with other competitors.

Why Fly with China Sourthern Airlines

How to Check In

There are three ways to check in a flight with China Southern – online check in, mobile check in, and airport check-in. The first two options are available only for selected local and international destinations, however. The processing times open around one to two days before the scheduled date of departure and close around 30-60 minutes before the flight. This makes it essential for travellers to log on as early as they possibly can, as there might be delays if they wait at the last minute. Those who do not have access to either online or mobile check-ins can take the traditional route. Travellers must get to the front of the counter at least an hour and a half before the flight to make it to the plane.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Carry-on baggage for China Southern is pegged at five kilograms with a sum of dimensions adding up to 115 cm. The number of bags to be carried differs between the travel classes, as first-class passengers can bring two bags. The allowances for checked baggage differ, however, depending on the routes and travel classes to be taken by passengers. For instance, economy-class travellers heading for Japan, America, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, or Dubai can take two pieces, each having a maximum weight of 32 kilograms and dimensions of 158 cm. Different excess baggage rates apply for those travelling to specific destinations. There are specifications for those carrying mobile phones, laptops, cameras, and other equipment provided with lithium batteries. They must be placed inside the bags with only a reasonable number of spare batteries. The spare batteries must also be packed separately with their electrodes suitably protected. Liquids, on the other hand, will be inspected. Breast milk, baby formula, and pharmaceuticals must be stored properly in 100 ml containers and placed in a transparent plastic bag. Specific reminders are also given for those who want to fly with special equipment such as bicycles, surfing and windsurfing equipment, golf equipment, ski equipment, and fishing equipment. Pets must also be applied separately, with specific rules attached to make the journey safe as much as possible for them.

There are four classes of service in China Southern Airlines – first class, business class, premium economy class, and economy class.
