Top places to enjoy Live music in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Malaysia

The home for live music in Hong Kong since 1987 – The Wanch offers both original and cover Live music with jam sessions every night with no cover charge. The small and intimate setting makes it the perfect place to get out and meet the locals. 1b. Peel Fresco

If Jazz and Blues is your poison, Peel Fresco Music Lounge would be right up your alley. Thursdays and Saturdays are official Jazz nights. If you’re a professional car/shower-singer, head over on Tuesday nights for their open mic jam and serenade the audience from the stage! Who knows, you may appear on YouTube as the next big thing (though this may end up epically awesome, or not-so-awesome). The bar also has a large selection of white and red wine, and beer from the tap. The crowd consist mostly of foreign expats with a great mix of local clientele. Visit their website here.

1c. Ned Kelly’s Last Stand

Ned Kelly is Hong Kong’s oldest bar that serves Australian food with a good variety of beer. If you’re Australian and want a little taste of Down Under in Hong Kong, Ned Kelly’s reputed to have one of the best Jazz bands on Hong Kong. Love Thai food and live music? Saxophone Pub offers both in a cozy and relaxed environment. A different Jazz band plays every night so you could have your daily Jazz fix with a different experience. Everyone should be familiar with the Hard Rock brand and the one in Bangkok certainly lives up to expectations! The fun and groovy ambience backed by live bands playing a friendly mix of Thai hits and English chart-toppers definitely makes Hard Rock the best place to rest your weary feet after a long day of shopping! 3. Malaysia

For the Jazz lovers, No Black Tie is one of KL’s best venue for live Jazz performances. The place has seen countless Malaysian and international Jazz, Blues and spoken word acts and is conveniently located close to Bukit Bintang. 3b. Merdekarya

Located at Petaling Jaya, Merdekarya is a live music venue which features only local and independent acts. Here, you can really get to know the local pulse of the country through its music, spoken word and comedy acts – all over a pint of beer! 3c. The Bee Publika

The Bee serves fuss-free western and Italian food in a casual, cozy setting. It is known for its open mic/karaoke nights with even a disco-themed Sunday! With its clever use of indoor and outdoor spaces, The Bee is a perfect place for big group of friends chilling together over live music – with beer going for as little as $5.50 (RM17)!
