If you are looking for a great late spring or early summer getaway this year, check out Japan for a June holiday and you are sure to find something perfect for you. June is off-season in Japan, so you can expect great value flight tickets and hotel rates, less crowded tourist attractions and beautiful late spring weather.
Follow this 6D/5N June itinerary and you can be awed by fireworks festivals in Kyoto and Tokyo, enjoy gorgeous Mount Fuji Views and take a walk along a snow corridor high in the Japan Alps!.
Day 1: Tokyo for festivals and fireworks
Getting to Tokyo in June: Fly in on a return flight from Tokyo from Singapore for under S$450 on Thai Air Asia
Due to the Olympics taking place in Tokyo, many of the city’s fireworks festivals will be taking place in June rather than the usual July and August. Some of the best Tokyo fireworks festivals in June include the Koto Fireworks Festival.
Day 2 and 3: Mount Fuji area for mountain views and flower festivals
Getting to the Mount Fuji Area from Tokyo: Take a direct bus from Shinjuku to the Fuji Shizabakura Festival (2.5hrs) or for the tea plantations, take bus from JR Fuji Station bound for Sobina and alight at Sobinasita bus stop. From here it’s a 20-minute walk. Alternatively, hire a car in Tokyo for the drive.
The gorgeous clear skies of late June offer visitors amazing views of Mount Fuji, so head to Obuchi Sasaba and Imamiya Tea Plantations for some of the best views of Mount Fuji looming in the background with a verdant foreground of green tea bushes.
Be sure also to check out Yamanakako Hanano Miyako Park at the foot of Mount Fuji from mid-June to be awed by a 300,000m² sea of poppies, sunflowers and zinnia.

Day 4 and 5: Kyoto for traditional celebrations and night-time illuminations
How to get to Kyoto from Tokyo: Take the Nozomi shinkansen from Tokyo (2.5hrs)
The weather in June is warm but not humid, and flowers such as hydrangea and wisteria will be blooming all over the city. Best of all, the city is less crowded than usual. The June calendar in Kyoto is packed with festivals and activities. Kyoto hosts the annual Kyoto Geijutsu Hanabi Fireworks Festival at Kyoto Racecourse as well as the annual Spring Dances by the Geiko and Meiko.
Day 6: Toyama for snow corridors, ropeway adventures and mountain hiking
How to get to Toyama from Kyoto: Take the JR Limited Express Thunderbird from Kyoto and transfer to the Hokuriku Shinkansen at JR Kanazawa station (approx. 3hrs)
Toyama is perched on the edge of the Japan Alps and snow seekers will be overjoyed to hear that even in June, you can have a snowy encounter in Japan. Hop on a bus from Toyama up to the Tateyama Snow Corridor, and walk through the corridor with densely packed 20ft walls of snow on either side. Be sure to take a ride on the Tateyama Ropeway, Japan’s longest ropeway without a supporting bridge, which offers stunning 360-degree views of the gorgeous scenery. The nearby mountains around Murodo are also perfect for hiking, with a well-maintained network of hiking trails and a number of mountain lodges offering visitors access to natural spring baths. From early June onwards, the mountains erupt in early summer flowers, making hikes a feast for the eyes.
Japan is an ideal destination for the June holidays. With fewer tourists, great weather and good value flights and hotels, you’ll be able to experience the best of the country without spending a bomb!
As low season in Japan, June offers plenty of hotel discounts and some great bargains. If you’re a shopper, find out where to stay for the ultimate shopping experience on your Japan vacation here.
