Good B&B for overnight in Windhoek
I stayed two times at this B&B in my recent trip to Namibia. I am in fact writing this review comfortably housed at the hotel. In both stays I found the rooms convenient, equipped with kitchen, good bathroom, properly sized apartments. It is a good option for what we did in the trip, overnight in Windhoek. Owner and staff are friendly. Location is good. I would stay here again in new visits to Namibia's capital. I also love the location because it reminds a piece of the history of science, at the corner of Banting and Best Streets. Best and Banting were the discoverers of Insulin....

My humble views
Though it was a bed and breskdast, no breakfast was served. The room was basic with a bed, toilet and a kutchen. The location was 3 km from central windhoek. I had to book a taxi everyday to go to my destination. Otherwise the staff was helpful but would disappear at 6 pm.

Quiet Place with very good Wi-Fi
A good aspect of this B&B is that it is very quiet and peaceful. we had a hire car and found the place quite easily. No-one answered the gate buzzer and we had to phone the owner. The young woman who eventually answered was not particularly friendly but showed us to rooms and allowed us to choose which ones we wanted. The rooms were spacious and clean although only one had a table available for use as a desk. There was no soap in the rooms as is usual in B&Bs and my room only had one type of tea, Rooibos, no Ceylon tea. The room was well equipped for self catering.
The breakfast was sufficient but unimaginative. a choice of two cereals, yogurt, fruit with bacon, beans, sausage and only scrambled eggs served one. There was a strange muffin on another day and meatballs. Again the staff could be trained to be more responsive and friendly.
The owners were was very friendly on the two occasions we met but a major drawback especially for international travellers is that they do not have a speed point for card payments and request cash or EFT. Carrying large amounts of cash is problematic in this day and age but luckily I was able to do an EFT with the good wi-fi available.
The cost was very reasonable but the owners would do well to reflect on some improvements which would make this place better.

Fend for ourselves
Picking our one night to stay here was largely due to our requirement for and the availability of an airport shuttle for our early flight departure the next morning.
We were dropped off at the accommodation at the conclusion of a tour. We had been delayed because our truck had broken down and a replacement had to be sent to our rescue.
A happy young man with very limited English let us in through the security gate and showed us to our apartment.
The apartment was large and clean, however the lighting was poor. Ceiling fans in the kitchen/breakfast bar and in the separate lounge.
There were sufficient utensils and pots and pans in the kitchen to prepare a meal, cooking appliances consisted of two hotplates and a microwave and there was a large fridge. Tea, coffee, creamer and sugar available.
The two bedrooms were big and comfortable with an in-room safe.
Beds were very firm, bathroom modern and spacious, good hot water and great shower. No toiletries provided except for hand-wash.
We had difficulty in communicating to the young man our urgent need to arrange for an airport shuttle for 3am the next morning, so the owner was called to the property.
The owner was very friendly, took our payment for our stay, but was apologetic that he could not assist us with organising an airport shuttle because his regular shuttle driver was out of town, he thought we would have a problem with the 3am hour at which we needed the transport and he had no confidence in the reliability of any booked shuttle at that hour. Then he left.
The property was 40km from the international airport.
The owner agreed to let us use his local phone to make our own arrangements.
We got onto the internet and started searching for airport shuttle transfers.
Location of the property was not convenient for guests who did not have their own car. We were told there were no malls or supermarkets or fast food outlets within walking distance and in any case, it was getting dark outside and walking was not recommended.
The apartment did have a booklet with eating places from which dinner can be ordered in but we were also short on local money so that was not an option.
The young man with limited English directed us to the local petrol station which sold a few food items and we decided to fast - walk there with the way lit by passing traffic.
We ended up with a quick and cheap dinner of rice, canned corn, canned peas and canned tuna with chopped up tomatoes for good measure.
As we had just concluded a camping safari tour, we had a heap of laundry but due to the late hour the laundry was closed. We decided to wait it out another day.
Needless to say, breakfast the next morning did not happen so I can't comment on it.
Because the property failed to deliver on the one main reason we picked this place, we would not return.

Emerald B&B
The accommodation itself was really nice. It was very clean and we had everything we could need including aircon in both rooms. We didn't stay for breakfast because we were all a little sick. Good value for money.
