Visited Riga in 1993 after the fall of communism. It is a magical city with very sincere, humble and lovely people.
Colorful parks and great atmosphere around the old city, nice and welcome people.
A little rough around the edges, Riga is a wonderful affordable city. You money will go a long way here, making this a great alternative to other pricier Euro cities.
Riga is a place where your experience will depend in large part on WHEN you choose to visit. Bubbling with concerts, street-life, and more than its fair share of partying in the warmer months, Riga can often seem a bit shriveled in the cold, when its lovely outdoor spaces aren't being put to their best use. Year-round, however, the old city center is beautiful, the beer IS in fact very good, and the women quite lovely. Time your visit right and you'll have a great time: it's a place best experienced as a social city.
