Poitou-Charentes is an administrative region that is located in south-western France. Poitou-Charentes has four departments namely Charente, Charente-Maritime, Deux-Sèvres, and Vienne. Its historical provinces are Angoumois, Aunis, Saintonge, and Poitou. The regional capital of Poitou-Charentes is Poitiers. Defensive Towers - You cannot miss the great structures which are called the three defensive towers, which guard the harbour whenever you're in the area of La Rochelle. These defensive towers date back to medieval times when control of the city was contested by both French and English. Visitors should check out these towers, and if you are in good health, climb up them as well to see a magnificent view of the area. The staff here is friendly and speak both English and French.
