What to see and do

As with most island groups, the key attractions of Okinawa Prefecture are entrenched in its nature - more specifically, in its long stretches of coast and clear blue seas. No trip to the region is complete without a look at the iconic Cape Manzamo, a scenic treasure that dazzles both locals and tourists alike. A 20-metre tall limestone cliff overlooking the ocean, Cape Manzamo’s name translates to ‘field that can accommodate 10,000’ in English and is an immensely popular picnic and sightseeing spot. To get there from Naha, take bus number 20 or 120 from Naha Bus Terminal. Be prepared for a 90-minute bus ride.

The Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, once the largest aquarium in the word, can be found in the Ocean Expo Park. The name, Churaumi, which was publicly voted amongst the Japanese, means beautiful ocean. Amongst the very few aquariums that keep whale sharks in captivity, it also saw its first manta ray birth in 2007.
