Best Time to Visit Kiev
The best time to visit Kiev is arguably the months of May and June, the transition period between the chilliness of spring and the heat of summer. During these months temperatures are a comfortable 15-19°C, just cool enough for a light jacket but not hot enough to bring in sweat and swarms of sun-seeking tourists. This is a great period to visit for cultural festivities as well - Kyiv Day Celebrations take place in May so you can expect firework displays, open-air music performances, and street shows all over town. The party doesn’t stop in June, either; that’s when the Kyiv Fire Fest takes place, bringing circus performers from all around Europe to the city for spectacularly death-defying fire shows.
Things to do in Kiev
If in Kiev, don’t miss a look at the city’s gorgeous 11th-century cathedral St Sophia’s. Built to rival Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia, St Sophia’s was where the city’s historical events were hosted - foreign ambassadors were welcomed in its hallowed halls, and Kiev princes were also crowned and buried there.
Next must-see in Kiev is the Kiev Pechersk Lavra or Kiev Monastery of the Caves. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine, this Monastery houses a series of underground chapels and living quarters within a subterranean cave system beneath the church.
