A world-renowned brand, Incheon International Airport is the largest airport in the South Korean peninsula, and enjoys the highest passenger traffic out of all the country’s airports. Mainly serving the capital of Seoul, the airport is situated on a manmade island located towards the north-western end of the country in the Incheon province, and has hosted international and domestic operations since its inauguration in 2001. Despite being relatively new, Incheon Airport has been widely recognised all over the world for its outstanding service and facilities, and has even won numerous awards consecutively such as the Best Airport in the world by SkyTrax and the Airports Council International. Some impressive amenities that the airport owns under its premises include a golf course, an ice skating rink as well as a casino! It is not every day that passengers can indulge in such extravagant activities while in transit, making Incheon Airport a truly remarkable place to be. Today, it is one of the world’s top airports especially with the country’s tourism sector expanding rapidly due to the phenomenal Korean culture.

How to get around

Visitors arriving at Incheon International Airport have a number of choices. One recommended route will be to take the AREX (Airport Railroad Express) train out of the airport into downtown Seoul. Not only is it the most affordable option, but passengers are offered speed as the train will get you into downtown Seoul in under an hour. Buses are also available from the airport just outside the arrival gates where visitors can purchase their tickets. Be sure to check which buses serve your intended destination in Seoul and board the correct one. Alternatively, passengers may also take a metered taxi into the city via the Incheon International Airport Expressway (Expressway 130), although it is not recommended as taxi fares are expensive and roads may be congested, making this option inconvenient.

Within the city, the most common mode of commute is the city’s subway system. Not only does it extensively cover almost all areas of Seoul, but each trip is also affordable and train services are frequent. Buses are also an ideal mode of transport if you know the details of your exact route and can read minimal Korean, as route information found at bus stops are all in the Korean language. On board the buses however, visitors do not have to worry as announcements for upcoming stops will be made in multiple languages including English and Chinese.

What to see and do

South Korea is a magnet for anyone and everyone, as the diverse culture and ever-changing trends of the city will definitely offer something irresistible for all.

One of Seoul’s most notable landmarks is the Namsan Tower; where visitors can get a panoramic view of the city on clear days, as well as witness the city twinkle at night. It is also a special place where couples can seal their affections for each other by locking their love on the fences of the tower. For single hopefuls, however, the thousands of colourful locks are always a good photography opportunity.

Food enthusiasts may head to the Noryangjin Fish Market for an extraordinary gastronomical experience. Here, visitors can buy live seafood directly from vendors and even eat them straight out of the tanks! The most popular dish will be the Sannakji, which translates to a live squirming (and sometimes very angry) octopus chopped up into smaller pieces or eaten as a whole. Come challenge yourself to this exciting adventure at this famous fish market in Seoul today!

As a country infamous for its focus on aesthetics, South Korea is also home to countless cosmetics manufacturers. Many of these brands can be found in Myeongdong, a one-stop destination for skincare and make-up addicts. Furthermore, visitors walking past these stores will often receive free hand-outs simply because of the high competition among the different brands. It is also here that men may see their lives changed as they are introduced to a whole new world of pampering, as many Korean cosmetics brands actively concentrate on the male market and create products especially for them.
