Flights to Crete, Greece
The Greek island of Crete is served by 2 international airports, Heraklion International Airport - also known as Nikos Kazantzakis Airport - as well as Chania International Airport. The airports serve respectively the 2 principal cities of Heraklion and Chania. Heraklion is the island’s capital and largest city, whilst Chania International Airport is the second largest. As such, it is unsurprising that Heraklion International Airport is also the biggest and busiest of Crete and the main international gateway to the island.

- Chania International Airport is 14 kilometres from Chania and 148 kilometres from Heraklion. A taxi ride from Chania airport to Chania town should cost about EUR 27-30 (SGD 40-46), and take around 25-30 minutes.

Best Time to Visit Crete
As a holiday destination most known for its beaches, summer is most tourists’ favourite time to visit Crete - the temperature is a warm 26-29°C, the sun is out for extended periods and the sea is nice and warm. However, visiting in peak season comes with the usual drawbacks; expect jacked-up hotel room prices, long lines at restaurants and lots of bodies on the beach. As such, travellers are advised to visit in the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn when the weather is slightly chillier instead.
Things to do in Crete
With hundreds of miles of sandy coast and clear greeny-blue seas, Heraklion is no doubt a beach destination. You’ll be spoilt for choice on this island, though, as it offers a whole range of different beaches from the sandy to the pebble-filled. Conventional beach-lovers should head to Vai beach for its soft golden sands (with the added bonus of a lush green palm grove just behind the sand). Otherwise, the spectacular Palaiokastro Beach is also a popular choice due to its mass of little pebbles and sea waters so clear you can see right to the bottom.
