What to see & do

Abruzzo is divided into four districts or provinces which represent all the sides of the region. L'Aquila, the regional capital, is the heart of Abruzzo, surrounded by the Provinces of Teramo to the North, Pescara and Chieti to the East, Molise to the South-east, and Lazio to the West. Other provinces of the region include Chieti, Pescara, the second capital, and Teramo. It is suggested that travellers go around the region via day trips for them to fully enjoy the experience, especially night sights which are concentrated in the provinces' city centres. Moreover, the terrain of Abruzzo makes it hard to travel at night, so get lost during the day and pamper the body at night!

L' Aquila – known as the Florence of Abruzzo or the Salzburg of Italy, the city is determined to quickly recover from the 2009 earthquake – a sign that it is indeed beautiful from both the travellers' and the locals' point of view. Restorations began immediately after the tragedy, and security is being restored almost in an instant, to preserve the rich heritage of ancient pagan and Roman settlements and temples built years ago. Visit the various sites and sights in the area, including the Castel di Sangro; the Collegiata dell'Assunta where two 13th-century architectonic jewels can be found; Sulmona, the birthplace of the Latin Poet Ovid; and the churches of San Pietro, San Pelino and Santa Maria. Bring home some world-renowned confetti with you too!

Teramo – a city once called Interamnnia or a city between two rivers, the province/city of Teramo is a historical and charming city, with its foundations dating back to the Phoenician times. Up until today, the city is full of archaeological finds which prove the passage of different people, including funerary treasures similar to Picene tombs. Visit the F. Savini Archaelogical Museum, the Church of the Madonna delle Grazie, and the Melatino House, as well as the Lido delle Rose, one of the major tourist resorts facing Adriatic Sea.

Pescara – the province of Pescara is known for its architecture, museums, and the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga, the Majella National Park, and other natural reserves. Visit the Provincial Government Building, the City Hall in Piazza Italia, Corso Monthone for its nightlife hub, and the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art.
