It is located in the city centre, around 1.5 kilometres southeast of the main commercial area. It serves as a hub for Air Burkina, and it handles approximately 98 percent of all scheduled commercial air traffic in Burkina Faso. Airlines that operate at Ouagadougou Airport include Air Algerie, Air Burkina, Air Cote d’Ivoire, Air France, Arik Air, ASKY Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Senegal Airlines, Tunisair, Turkish Airlines, and Westair Benin. The airport also has a military sector. The government of Burkina Faso plans for construction of a new airport 30 kilometres north of Ouagadougou, due to Ouagadougou outgrowing its capacity constraints.
