Because Arroios is located just off the beaten tourist path, it tends to be more affordable than other Lisbon neighbourhoods.Many hotels and restaurants don’t charge top dollar. And most of the cultural attractions here are free or very inexpensive.
The neighbourhood is generally safe, especially during the daytime. Metro stations in Arroios, such as Intendente, and busy main streets like Avenida Almirante Reis warrant an extra eye for pickpockets. It’s best to swivel your bags to the front while wandering.
Arroios is famous for its mix of cultures, making it one of the most diverse areas of Lisbon. Largo do Intendente Pina Manique was once a gloomy square but is now a leafy hub ideal for a breather and a coffee.
