###Where to hire a car in Kota Kinabalu Several car rental companies operate at the arrivals hall of Kota Kinabalu International Airport. These companies include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt Rent-A-Car. These and other local car rental providers in Malaysia also have various offices in Kota Kinabalu city proper.
Some also offer pick-up points in Kota Kinabalu City. Borneo Express, for instance, has pick-up points at the airport and the city. Pick-up service at one location and dropping the car off in a different location is allowed as long as they have an office in that area.
Kinabalu Rent A Car and Kings Car Rental Services are other car rental companies operating in the city.
###What to expect when hiring a car from Kota Kinabalu Roads all over Kota Kinabalu and Sabah have proper signage so driving will not be that hard. When planning to visit main attractions, look for brown road signs. These are for places usually frequented by tourists or are areas for recreation. However, some signs are written in Malay.
At the city centre, most major roads are dual carriageways, while roads leading to other towns are single carriageways.
###Getting to your destination
For climbing enthusiasts, don’t miss Mt. Kinabalu. Climbing Mt. Kinabalu is the top adventure activity in Sabah. At more than 4,000 metres, it is one of the most notable peaks in Southeast Asia. The climb is not technically difficult - climbers should be moderately fit to reach the summit.
Mt. Kinabalu is about a two-hour drive from the city. Take the A4 highway, towards Tuaran, at the roundabout to Kundasang/Ranau/Sandakan. Make a right turn then follow the signs leading to Kinabalu Park.
Poring Hot Springs
After visiting Kinabalu Park, give your legs that much-needed relaxing treatment at Poring Hot Springs located about 25 miles from the park. Soak your aching feet at the springs with minerals which are believed to have healing properties. It is advised to bring a towel, swimwear, change of clothes, and slippers to have a fun, hassle-free trip.
From Kota Kinabalu city centre, it can take you 2-3 hours to get to the hot springs. You can take Route 22/A4/AH150 or SA3. Both routes will lead to Jalan Lohan Bongkud then to Jalan Poring.
Sunset Musical Festival
If you’re planning to visit Kota Kinabalu sometime in June, you can have an outdoor musical experience at Sunset Musical Festival, held at the northernmost Tip of Borneo. See performances of both local and international artists while relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sunset views.
It is approximately a three-hour drive between Kota Kinabalu and the Tip of Borneo. With a distance of 180 kilometres, the route to take is Route 1/A1/AH150 and Jln Kota Belud - Kudat/Route 1/A1/AH150.
