Driving around Amritsar Airport

State Highway 25 passes the airport. There are a lot of large, busy roads surrounding the airport. We recommend searching for a car hire package that includes a sat-nav, to make getting around a little easier. Home to the Golden Temple, the holiest building in the Sikh religion, the city of Amritsar is a favourite destination for pilgrims. Narrow streets and medieval buildings combine with typical Indian hustle to create one of the most atmospheric destinations in the Punjab.

It takes about 20 minutes to drive into downtown Amritsar from the airport, depending on traffic. Speaking of traffic, it can be quite hectic in the city: even in the new area of town which is characterised by wide boulevards. We recommend a lot of patience if you're planning on driving in Amritsar, otherwise look for hotels on the outskirts and take a rickshaw into the city.
