Yangon International Airport, Myanmar

If you are travelling to the once-isolated country of Myanmar from Singapore, you will most likely land at Yangon International Airport. The airport is the primary gateway into this beautiful country which has remained closed until recently. Singaporeans are encouraged to apply for a tourist visa before leaving Singapore as on-arrival visas are absent at the airport. The airport is not open 24 hours and closes at 10pm.


There are two terminals in Yangon International Airport that is are a five-minute walk apart.

Services and Facilities

Lounge. There are three lounges available at the international departure airport, the Sky Smile Executive Lounge and the Royal Jade Lounge 1 and 2, that offer refreshments, entertainment and business secretary services. For the Sky Smile Executive Lounge which is located near Gates 3 and 4, access is only allowed for Myanmar Airways Diamond Club members and business class passengers. The Royal Jade Lounge is only open to Thai Airways Business Class passengers.

WiFi/Internet Services. There is WiFi available at the International Terminal but it might not be working as efficiently.

Business & Conference. There are no meeting facilities available at the airport but there are five lounges which offer business secretary services. The Hotel Yangon, which is a five-minute taxi ride away offers conference and meeting rooms.

Shopping. There is duty-free shopping available for passengers in both the terminals. There are several shops selling local souvenirs and handicraft. Don’t expect to buy high- end luxury brands from this airport.

General Services. Terminal facilities are very limited in this airport. There are ATMs and banking services available in both the domestic and international terminals. Public telephones and postal services are also widely available. There are limited medical facilities at the airport.

Eating Facilities. There are self-service cafes in the public areas. If you’re looking for a wider array of food options, head to the International Departure VIP Lounges but don’t expect too much.

Car Rental Facilities. There are several travel agency desks which are responsible for car hires. It is important to note that it is customary for visitors to rent cars with a driver in Myanmar.

Transit Hotels. You are not allowed to spend the night at the Yangon International Airport. Head to Myanmar Life Hotel which is 5 minutes from the airport or to MiCasa Hotel Apartments which is 10 to 15 minutes away if you are looking for a place to spend the night.

 Getting To & From the Airport

Driving hide 

Head north past the Hlaing University campus from central Yangon via the Pyay Road. The Pyay Road links directly to the Yangon Airport Road.

Trains hide 

There are no direct trains to the city centre of Yangon. However, there are two railway stations that are a short taxi ride from the airport terminals which passengers can take to the city’s central station. The duration of the journey is around 40-50 minutes.  

Buses hide 

There are no buses available to take visitors to the city centre.

Taxi hide 

There are plenty of taxis that can be taken from the airport. The taxis are cheap and have fixed fares in operation. The duration of the journey is 30 minutes.
