Dayrestan Airport, also known as Qeshm International Airport, is an international airport serving Qeshm Island in Iran. Residing at an elevation of 45 feet or 14 metres above mean sea level, the airport is located near the village of Dayrestan, in the centre of the island, off the south coast of the country. It can be found on the map with the coordinates 26°45′16.70″N 055°54′08.47″E, and operates with an asphalt surfaced runway designated 05/23, with a length of 13,864 feet or 4,226 metres.
Qeshm Island is situated in the Strait of Hormuz, separated from mainland Iran by the Clarence Strait/Khuran in the Persian Gulf. Its largest settlement is Qeshm city, which is at the easternmost point of Qeshm Island. The island is known for its different eco-tourist attractions, including the Hara marine forests, where 1.5% of the world’s birds and 25% of Iran’s native birds migrate to the forests every year. The Hara marine forests is also the first national geo park. There is also an ancient Portuguese fort to see on Qeshm Island, as well as the historic mosques, the Seyyes Mozaffar and Bibi Maryam shrines, and the ponds and mangrove forests in the Persian Gulf. Other equally interesting points of interest here are the domes, salty caves, the ports and wharfs, and the preserved area in Shibderaz Village where tourists can watch the hatching of the eggs of Hawksbill turtles.
Aside from air travel, other means of getting between the mainland and the island is through a speedboat or ferry. There also have been plans to construct a bridge to connect Qeshm and the rest of Iran.
Dayrestan Airport, or Qeshm International Airport, has a passenger terminal that accommodates commercial air services that connect Qeshm Island to the United Arab Emirates and Tehran. The airlines that operate at the airport are Iran Air (Tehran-Mehrabad), Iran Airtour (Mashhad, Tehran-Mehrabad), Iran Aseman Airlines (Shiraz), Mahan Air (Dubai-International, Tehran-Mehrabad), and Qeshm Airlines (Dubai-International, Isfahan, Kish Island, Shahrekord, Shiraz, Tehran-Mehrabad).
Services and Facilities
In addition to commercial air services, Dayrestan Airport also accommodates a limited amount of cargo traffic, which is handled informally through the passenger terminal. Other than the terminal, other facilities in the airport include an area on the northwest side that is used for aviation activities, a fuel farm, and an ATC tower.
