Belmopan Airport

Hector Silva Airstrip, or Belmopan Airport, is an airport that serves Belmopan, in the country of Belize, specifically at 17.269444 latitude and -88.776111 longitude. Over the years, the airstrip was extended by the British army by early 2000s, in an attempt to enable the airport to accommodate larger planes like the Lockheed C-130 Hercules. Currently, the airstrip operates with a 1,100-metre or 3,700-feet long runway. The joint-use airstrip is being used by the Belize Defence Forces as a temporary landing facility for their aircraft. Hector Silva Airstrip has flights to local destinations such as Belize City, via Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport and Belize City Municipal Airport; Caye Caulker via Caye Caulker Airport; San Pedro via San Pedro Airport; San Ignacio via Matthew Spain Airport. In addition, Tropic Air is the only airline that has scheduled flights to and from these destinations.

Highlighting Belize’s capital city, Belmopan, the city covers an area of around 33 square kilometres or 13 square miles. As an education centre, the zoo received thousands of school children annually. Animals within the zoo include five wildcats such as jaguar, puma, ocelot, margay, and jaguarundi; in addition to other animals like greater grison, white-tailed deer, mottled owl, great curassow, boa constrictor, among others. Encounters and tours offered within the zoo include Nocturnal Tour, Junior Buddy encounter, Scarlet macaw encounter, and Boa encounter.

Driving hide 

There are a couple of ways to get to Hector Silva Airstrip from Belmopan, Belize. One option is to go via N Ring Road, head north for 300 metres to Trinity Boulevard,right at 23 metres, then left on N Ring Road for 800 metres. Go straight for 16 metres onto Power Lane then turn right for 1.9 kilometres to reach the destination. Another option is to go via Floral Park Road, head on north for 300 metres on Trinity Boulevard. Right for 23 metres then left onto N Ring Road for 400 metres. Next get to Floriana Avenue for 280 metres, left by Vanada Street for 130 metres, left by Floral Park Road for 500 metres then right for 1.5 kilometres to reach the destination.
