T'way Air Flights

Bogota-based regional airline Satena operates flights throughout Colombia. Key destinations include Cali, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla, Medellin, Pasto and Tumaco. The airline has its base airport in El Dorado International Airport Olaya Herrera Airport.

The carrier was launched by the Colombian Government in 1962 to provide air transportation to the remoter regions of Colombia which were then inaccessible. By 2007 it grew into a major regional carrier operating a large number of domestic services on a very modern fleet of small commuter aircraft.

These days the cities that Satena serve include Apartadó, Arauca, Armenia, Bahía Solano, Barranquilla, Bogotá (El Dorado International Airport), Bucaramanga, Buenaventura, Cali, Corozal, Cúcuta, Florencia, Guapi, Ipiales, La Pedrera, La Macarena, Leticia, Medellín, Mitú, Neiva, Nuquí, Pasto, Pereira, Popayán, Providencia Island, Puerto Asís, Puerto Carreño, Inirida, Puerto Leguízamo, Quibdó, San José del Guaviare, San Vicente del Caguán, Saravena, Tame, Tumaco and Villavicencio.

In 1965, Satena, in coordination with the Bank of Bogotá, began a new service named AeroBanco, which was created to facilitate air travel to other areas largely or completely inaccessible by road. Due to great success in the areas served by the airline, President Carlos Lleras Restrepo put into effect Law 80 of December 12, 1968, where it was decreed that Satena would be treated as a public establishment, with all legal functions controlled by the Ministry of National Defence.

Colombia has been rated as one of the world’s most exotic cities and the captivating beauty and infectious warmth of its people have left many a visitor insensate. But it is probably not advisable to explore too much outside the main tourist resorts without proper guides, and to fly where possible.

With that in mind Satena's large network of services operating to many of the major cities make it a great way to get around.

In 2004, SATENA became the airline with the newest and most modern aerial fleet in Colombia, when it incorporated two new Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft, allowing it to perform faster and more efficient services to its mostly isolated destinations.
