Tiger Airways Australia operates as Tigerair Australia, and is an Australian low-cost airline flying to destinations in Asia and Australia. Headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia, the airline’s main base is at Melbourne Airport. Tiger Airways Australia is a fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia Holdings, which purchased its remaining 40% stake in the airline in October 2014. As of May 2014, Tiger Airways Australia has a fleet of 13 Airbus A320-232 aircrafts and flies over 50 destinations in 13 countries in Asia and Australia.

How to Check In

For a hassle-free check-in, Tiger Airways Australia has enabled web check-in for its passengers. Web check-in at the airline’s website is available from 72 hours (three days) to one hour prior the scheduled departure time of the flight. Upon successful web check-in, the Web Check-In Boarding Pass must be printed out and presented at the airport in order for the passengers to board the flight. Check-in counters at the airport are also available. The counters are open two hours to 45 minutes before departure. Those who show up after the check-in counters have closed will not be allowed to board the flight. Unaccompanied children below 12 years old are also not allowed to check-in.

Baggage Allowance & Fees

Two pieces of carry-on luggage is allowed inside the aircraft cabin as long as each luggage is within the 54cm x 38cm x23cm dimension and will not exceed a combined weight of 10kg per person. Cabin baggage that will exceed 10kg will be considered as checked baggage and will be charged accordingly. Sports equipment is also considered as checked baggage. Musical instruments may be carried as cabin baggage provided that it is within the 30cm x 117cm x 38cm dimension. Prohibited items, both as carry-on and checked baggage, include perishable goods, live animals except for Seeing Eye Dogs (domestic Australian flights), human remains, and dangerous items such as pointed/edged weapons and sharp objects, and blunt instruments that can cause injury such as tennis rackets, baseball and softball bats, night sticks, golf clubs, paddles, skateboards, and martial arts equipment.


When booking a seat, travellers are required to pay the fare in full prior to check-in and boarding. Travellers who have purchased a non-emergency exit row seat during online booking will have seats assigned by the airline. Those who have not selected a seat during booking can purchase a non-emergency exit row seat during web check-in. Pre-selection of seats using the Seat Selector can be done during the booking process, up to four hours before scheduled departure time. If booking for a group of 10 people or more, Tiger Airways Australia offers only one flight price for all passengers regardless of seating. A deposit of 25% of the total fare is also required for group travel.

Booking Fees

As per industry practise, Tiger Airways Australia adds a booking fee to the total price of the fare. The fee is charged on a per passenger, per flight segment basis. Payment via Visa, MasterCard, and Diners Club are accepted. Passengers must be aware that bookings must be paid in full upon confirmation of reservation, or else booking will be cancelled.

Inflight Entertainment

Tiger Airways Australia supplies its passengers with a free Tiger Tales inflight magazine. On-board snacks, soft drinks, beer, and wine are also available for purchase.
